And I don’t believe in such insipid generalizations. Reality is more nuanced. But this simpleton’s outlook way of life is a perfect representation of how Alsobrooks sees everything. She’s basically a child when it comes to her grasp on these matters. |
Then I’ll either write-in Trone or I’ll just cast no ballot in that race. But given the choice between a republican, and a Democrat who essentially acts like a republican when it comes to things that are very important to me (police abuses, ect), then I say I don’t have a choice at all. Hogan and Alsobrooks are basically the same when it comes to protecting the right of POC - they don’t. |
And you'll be telling elected officials that they can ignore your opinions. |
Let’s go back to the title of this thread.
Opinions as to why Trone lost by such a surprise blow out number? |
I believe he lost because of the very effective and damning ads about his donating to MAGA Republicans in red states to protect his business interests. Very damaging to women, and so corrupt. |
Voting for Larry Hogan isn’t a vote for a moderate Republican— it’s a vote for committee chairs Ted Cruz & Josh Hawley. You’re voting to allow the GOP to control the Senate chamber and that also means control who goes on the federal bench. Remember last time they controlled it? |
Because the party rallied around Alsobrooks. Trone was painted as a “rich conservative” and the party doesn’t like that. |
It will also be interesting to see if Black turnout was unusually high for Alsobrooks, plus women. I wonder if the poll slide didn't start when he used the racist slur. Plus people are freaking disgusted with soft-on-crime policies that have contributed to deteriorating quality of life in the area. |
THIS. He will be like every moderate Republican who never fails to toe the party line in the end. |
Sure split that hair, but requiring those 37% of abortions by means other than a pill to be performed by physicians doesn’t bother me and doesn’t feel overly restrictive. |
You can’t buy all elections? |
Trone lost in part because his constant repetitive ads and flyers annoyed people. I remember when he ran against Raskin and it annoyed people to no end. He did the same thing this time and it really annoyed people.
It also felt slimy, like he was trying to buy his way into an election. Whoever is advising him is pretty lousy, this is a repeated pattern for him. |
Fortunately, since the General Assembly overrode Hogan's veto, Maryland law now allows medical care providers to decide what is appropriate, which is how it should be. |
Because Alsobrooks is a more compelling candidate. |
Two reasons. 1. Alsobrooks tied Trone to Donald Trump. 2. She came out with a ad with all of the endorsements. That one was visually impactful because it had all of the heavy hitters in one shot endorsing her. Both of those ads were late in the campaigning season so they were fresh and peoples minds. |
