That is certainly true. And why this stuff is supposed to be disclosed from the start. And it appears it wasn’t disclosed not just for “appearance” reasons but for a variety of possible legal reasons (bribery, tax fraud, etc). Horrible stuff.

I am curious why it’s all coming out now. Did I miss something?

Probpublica did extensive investigative reporting. This is on the heels of the insane vacations/private jet flights. I do wonder if they have more.

How much more do we need?! His wife helped plan an insurrection and now we find out they were both on the take.

His wife was paid to plan an insurrection. They are all conservatives so there will be no accountability. Don’t look for DOJ to do anything. SCOTUS will have some BS internal investigation. Will interrogate and threaten with arrest the reporters. Mean while Thomas, his wife and Crow will not even be interviewed.

Yup, nothing will happen so conservatives just relax. The guy’s untouchable, your super majority is safe.

Thomas has a lifetime appointment. He sold his mom’s house to a guy for a crapload more than it was worth, and then his mom kept living in it (rent free?) and the guy made improvments on it. I mean. Come on.

eTA: For those not following, Thomas did not disclose the deal, that’s the crime. And maybe it was a bribe too.

He doesn't disclose anything

This is a real scandal and is getting completely overshadowed by other stuff in the news but really, this is one of the lost corrupt things I’ve every seen wrt the Court.

What’s so pathetic about Thomas’s corruption is the gauche nature of it - undeclared vacations on private estates, private jets, yachts, tacky chotchke gifts, and a Southern-fried real estate scandal.

My next guess is that Thomas has a lime green Lambo hidden away in a garage, next to his grifted Rolex collection.

So tacky and unsophisticated. He looks like a 3rd world military generalissimo

I love how he said this is a 25 year old friendship. My man, you have been on SCOTUS for 31 years. He is not a friend from before you became useful to him.

+1. His best defense is “I was an idiot and can’t read the law.” Not a good look for Supreme Court justice. He escaped scandal before. The key this time is to be relentless. And put the screws to Crow - this is as obvious a case of public corruption as I’ve ever seen.

LOL. I picture him closing the door and stroking everything that he can't show off.

It’s not like people follow them around with cameras. It’s totally possible that he does have those things and takes them out when attending some right wing Eyes Wide Shut type party.

“I was not advised.” You need to have someone tell you how to be decent? Even the other equally s**t regressive justices were able to figure that stuff out, why not you, Thomas?

How is accepting gift from friends corruption ?
His judicial philosophy has nothing to do with gifts.

Well the house for his mother (plus buying property next door for extra privacy) was less gauche …
But also not declared ..,

He really needs to be impeached and replaced with a black judge who has integrity …

Also he should never be allowed to write court opinions again - he has no credibility …

He did not declare all the gifts from his friend (or right wing groups such as heritage foundation) or nay added up to multimillion dollars. Obviously, it gives the appearance that the SC has been bought off by vested interests ..,

And at the same time this “friend’s” groups are filing amicus briefs arguing for Thomas to vote certain ways on cases. And then he does.

Not to mention the real possibility there is tax fraud and money laundering happening here that he sought to hide. I mean. This is really bad.
