Meh...overcautious. I've seen it done, no biggie. |
So it is ok for justices of the supreme court to flout ethics violations but not regular government employee chumps?
Maybe it is time for bi-partisan support of judicial reform that include teeth behind ethics? |
They should probably also have to include this “gift.” “Crow met Thomas after he became a justice. The pair have become genuine friends, according to people who know both men. Over the years, some details of Crow’s relationship with the Thomases have emerged. In 2011, The New York Times reported on Crow’s generosity toward the justice. That same year, Politico revealed that Crow had given half a million dollars to a Tea Party group founded by Ginni Thomas, which also paid her a $120,000 salary. But the full scale of Crow’s benefactions has never been revealed.” |
Well, if you follow right wing media, Biden cashed $5Billions from China, Hillary killed Foster, there is a lot of crime in Dem-run cities (just Dem-run, red areas seem to have no problems), the border is wide open but just under Dem presidents, which is strange because we were told that the wall was up snd working and that the border was sealed under Trump, so i wonder where the wall went), economy under Barack was horrible (and he was most likely born in Kenya), the election in 2020 was stolen or anyway those videos show something suspicious, and so on |
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of government employees turn down gifts, tickets, special events ALL the time because ethics matter to them. But people who complain about the “government “ are here defending this guy. Madness. |
Laugh/cry |
There was really something to the premise of "The Pelican Brief" |
Yeah, people who haven’t worked for the government have no idea how strict these rules are. I once heard Norman Mineta tell a story about how, when he was sent to a WWII internment camp as a boy, he brought along his baseball bat as one of his few precious possessions and a way to pass the time with other kids. The guards took away his bat because it supposedly could be used as a weapon. When he was an adult serving in one part or another of government, someone who knew that story sent him the gift of a bat that had been used by one of the baseball greats as a gesture to basically right one small wrong of history. Unfortunately, he had to send it back because its value was above the low threshold for gifts he could accept. At least he had a great punchline for the call he made to the would-be gift-giver: “The government’s taken my bat AGAIN!” |
Ethics are for losers. |
