What’s people‘s theory on why Johnson said Trump was an informant?

I’m starting to think that Johnson saw something in the file or read that Trump was an informant and stupidly thought that cleared him until somebody had to explain, people become informants to keep from going to jail themselves.

Of course, this would have already surfaced when Trump was running for president, right?

The whole thing is so weird but it’s fun to speculate why Johnson would say such a thing.
