Political Discussion
I agree, which is why Biden needs to go. He staked his future on supporting Israel's genocidal regime and found himself on the wrong side of history. He's badly weakened himself and needs to step aside so someone more electable can take over. |
All true and Biden deserves great credit for his accomplishments, but many on the left will see his support for Israel as a dealbreaker and feel strongly enough that they don't care about your forgiveness. Biden has done an excellent job in many areas, but he now has this albatross around his neck. Another Trump presidency would be an absolute disaster, and we can't risk that possibility by not retiring Biden. He has lost support among a crucial demographic -- young voters. That said, it's only January and the election is in November. Many things could change by then, including Trump's support collapsing and Biden rehabilitating himself with young people. As it looks at the moment, though, supporting Biden may help elect Trump. |
Once the majority of human society evolves to this position of compassion, we will finally have peace. Steven Pinker's hopeful books, Enlightenment Now and The Better Angels of our Nature, give me some optimism that we'll get there eventually, but the human race is still much too primitive and savage. Not to be facetious, but our best hope in this current conflict is to wait 200 years. There will come a time when the vast majority of people find violence and injustice so repugnant that the roots of conflict will be greatly reduced. I don't believe Israel will exist as an ethnonationalist state 200 years from now -- not because Israel will suffer a military defeat but because Israelis themselves will become uncomfortable with bullying Palestinians and taking their lands and home. There'll also be some sort of effective international order and justice system that handles criminal and anarchistic behavior in ways that resolve rather than escalate problems. Well ... maybe

It's only contentious in the sense that the entity that seized the land disagrees (but then what do you expect them to do? say yeah we stole it?) with it. Pretty much everyone in the world, including every single State Department admin up to Mr Pompeo who decided to buck the trend by declaring that some settlers are very fine people. |
| Name a country that is not partially on "stolen land" |
I don't understand why the NYT article on Hamas' rapes quotes Yossi Landau of ZAKA. Landau is a documented liar who was behind the fake atrocity stories that have been debunked by now, but not before making it around the world. Landau is personally responsible for “confirming” the bogus tale of Hamas beheading babies in kibbutz Kfar Aza – a contrivance which President Joseph Biden promoted against the advice of his aides. As CBS News reported on October 11, Landau said he “saw with his own eyes children and babies who had been beheaded.” An Israeli army spokesperson took Landau’s claim and ran with it, declaring that “a senior official in the Israeli coronary service” had confirmed the allegation of beheaded babies. In fact, ZAKA is a religious service with no coronary qualifications. The claim then made its way to CNN, which dedicated almost an entire hour of a primetime broadcast to the imagined atrocity based on “confirmation” from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. US President Joe Biden echoed the allegation next, sleepily proclaiming during a press conference that he had seen “pictures of terrorists beheading children.” The president thus ignored the record of confirmed deaths from October 7, which showed that only one baby, a 10-month-old named Mila Cohen, had been killed. Landau was also behind the story of a pregnant woman with her stomach cut open (false), and of a pile of burned children ("at least 20!"). Official records show there were 13 children killed total, and the most found in one location was three. The pregnant victim story was so compelling that the first lady of Israel tweeted it out - except the footage included as proof came from Mexico in 2017, and the "medic" quoted (Landau) has no medical qualifications. All this information is freely available. So why is NYT quoting a known liar? The sister of the woman profiled in NYT apparently has some issues with how her sister was covered. |
He does have a point Gaza cannot be rebuilt, there are many unexploded shells, and there is no economy. If they are not fed by aid they will all starve. They are starving now as it is At the same time Israel doesn’t have a right to redraw the borders of Gaza, just like Putin does not have a right to redraw the border of Ukraine Gazans are not going to emigrate, so the solution he is proposing is moot. Israelis are free to emigrate |
Sweden, Norway, Russia, Indonesia, Britain, Ireland: the list goes on Yes, countries have been conquered and invaded in the centuries before modern time. But that age is over |
Place restraints on Israel if you don't want it to happen. |
Russia? What about Ukraine? Britain? You’re kidding right? Look up the phrase “the sun rises and sets on the British empire.” Ireland fought wars for their land with Britain There’s nothing new or different here with Palestine. |
So we’re still debating whether sexual assault happened on October 7? Wow, you’re really low. Jeff - are you really tolerating this? |
| I support our commander in chief. Funny how you all rip Israel apart, but not even a peep lately about Russia. Says a lot about posters here who were quick to judge what/whom they hate. |
What century are you living in? Why the sudden need to empty Gaza? |
What a wild accusation Do you have any data to support your claim? |
No moron, we are debating whether the evidence presented in the NYT article meets the sniff test. But please feel free to point any factual inaccuracies in the post. |
