I find both sides of this war to be abhorrent and despicable. BOTH. It is hard for me to understand any of it on a human level sometimes because I cannot even kill a bug in my home let alone conceive of killing one other human unless they came into my home and threatened me or my family. However, it gets tiring when the narrative on one side is always "piss people off, take from them because you are better than they are, and then get angry when they attack you and claim you are the victim". It gets old and I hope at some point in my lifetime people will evolve past needing a particular piece of land to "settle their people" on and learn how to live in peace or at least move towards teaching living in peace. But each side has entrenched themselves in their beliefs, then it has created hatred and anger that will last generations and may never end.

It seems that Israel is finally opening up to the idea of a two-state solution to its conflict with Palestine—so long as the second state is on a completely different continent.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right coalition has been secretly speaking with the Democratic Republic of Congo about resettling thousands of Palestinians in the African nation, the Israeli outlet Zman Israel reported Wednesday.

Netanyahu and his allies floated the idea of sending Palestinians elsewhere last week, but the idea has been vehemently rejected by the international community. Moreover, Congo is unlikely to have the resources necessary to take care of such a massive influx of displaced people. More than half of the country’s population lives below the poverty line, according to the World Food Programme.

Israeli officials have made it increasingly clear in recent days that their plan is to completely eliminate Palestine. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Monday that a way to solve the war was to “encourage the voluntary migration of Gaza’s residents to countries that will agree to take in the refugees.

But it seems that Smotrich and Ben Gvir’s statements do reflect the policy of the Israeli government. Nearly all of the 2.3 million people living in the Gaza Strip have been displaced due to Israel’s unrelenting bombardment of the region. Palestinians were forced to flee to designated “safe zones,” only for Israel to bomb those areas, as well.

https://newrepublic.com/post/177837/report-israel-expel-palestinians-gaza-third-country-congo

Wonder how the US will be transporting the 2.3 million to the Congo? Will the Israel deliver the human cargo in chains to the US military be transported away? Wish someone would ask Blinken or Kirby about the logistics of this.

Does hyperbole and ridiculousness really advance the discussion?

Asking for a friend.

Are you asking for Bezalel Smotrich current Minister of Finance and a minister in the Defense Ministry of Israel? Maybe you are asking for Itamar Ben-Gvir Minister of National Security of Israel? These are the people who are working on a plan to ship all Gaza Palestinians to the Congo. I am sure they will expand that to the West Bank. I know you would.

Israel does not have the transportation infrastructure to move 2.3 million people to the Congo. So logically this will be done by the US. The US and Israel see all Palestinians as terrorists. So how do you transport 2.3 million terrorists? You do not put them on a cruise ship or give them a ticket on EL AL. You strip them, given them prisoner uniforms and chain them up for transport. It is SOP.

I think it is ridiculous that you ignore the current plan by the government of Israel. It seems you do not want to have a discussion about the actual facts on the ground vs the never ending debate about which butcher has the moral high ground. Talk about hyperbole and ridiculousness…that is you.

I agree. Biden needs to resign -- for everyone's sake. He represents a paradigm that recently died.

Not only he won't resign but he'll be reelected so you'll get five full years to keep whinning.

My fear is he'll open the door for Trump.

The far left is about to elect Trump in order to save Palestinians.

Trump will help Israel destroy Palestine.

Trump will do irreparable damage to the most vulnerable populations in America.

Trump will do irreparable damage to America itself.

It's truly idiotic on every level.

Biden is doing a mighty fine job destroying Palestine as well. Biden has done irreparable damage to the vulnerable populations in this country as well. Tell me three things where Biden has helped vulnerable populations. He’s a senile old man who can’t keep his sentences straight. Our votes can no longer be bought. Can’t wait to vote for the Green Party! And don’t complain because the democrats should have put forward a better candidate to generate excitement amongst the far left.

But that’s what the Israelis have been doing all along. Repeatedly taking over Palestinian land and their ancestral homes and making Palestinians refugees and confining them to an open air prison.

Domestically, he’s pursued nothing less than a transformation of the American social safety net, with an agenda comprising a dizzying number of progressive policy goals. Biden has accomplished quite a lot of them—perhaps more than most political observers expected with such narrow Democratic majorities on Capitol Hill. Some of his legislative moves, on infrastructure and clean-energy manufacturing, for example, have even been bipartisan victories.

Read about them yourself: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2022/11/biden-2022-midterms-policy-record-approval/671941/

But let's not turn this into a thread about Biden.

You either vote for Biden or you've voted for Trump. You choose for yourself, but I will NEVER forgive the far left if they help elect Trump.

What, no WMD? No glass vial to shake?

Not a subscriber to NY times, but I can tell you that neither side is squeaky clean or spotless and the first casualty in war is the truth.
Right now it is the Palestinians who are doing the dying and suffering in very large numbers.
The end does not justify the means, not anymore

The bolded- it has ALWAYS been Palestinians being murdered and otherwise killed in very large numbers since the late 1940s, and 10/7/23 is the sole exception. When you frame the conflict as you do, it’s dishonest.

Yes, they have a lot of casualties because they start wars and can't finish them. They are not the victims.

“They”? Do you think all Palestinians are to blame? Such a lack of compassion.

My understanding from reading history is that Zionists were the original provocateurs. Palestinians responded. Violence escalated with each and every back and forth. Vastly more Palestinians have died (and kidnapped, ie held without charges) than Israeli over the years. The suffering that the escalation has now reached is terrible. And has just created a new generation of people who hate Israel.

I hope the US begins to link support to Israel to changes in how they treat Palestinians. I believe this will happen in the next 20-30 years.

It doesn’t matter what you want to think or what thoughts give you comfort. The truth is, the Palestinians start conflicts, the people they started conflicts with fight back, the Palestinians can't match the fighting, then cry victim. If you want to think, think about this, after all these years of fighting, why do the Palestinians have NOTHING they want? No accomplishments?

They do. You just can't see it. Israelis and Palestinians have an unspoken contract as so many do in the Middle East. Here are the terms:

Israelis: Palestinians, I will take your land.

Palestinians: you will, but you will never feel safe in it.

Listen, if your one accomplishment is your embrace of terrorism, you might aim a little higher...

From the knees to the crotch.

Oh they got the crotch, didn't they? Hamas terrorists broke pelvises, shot/stabbed/drove nails into crotches. Swell bunch of guys you folks admire.

I see we still have someone who thinks ZAKA reports are trustworthy despite ample evidence of lies and incompetence . Okay.

Wait, wtf? There are people who deny that horrific rape and sexual abuse happened? The animals video'd themselves.

Yes Virginia, there are people who don’t believe ZAKA, an organization repeatedly caught in lies and incompetence, an organization that works in cahoots with Bibi. That’s what happens when you lie: people stop believing you.

^ This is the far left version of qanon. You're just as sick and morally bankrupt as those evil clowns.

The head of ZAKA was Jeffrey Epstein on steroids. That’s irrefutable. But you do you, I guess, child molester weirdo.

Israel in talks concerning "voluntary" resettlement of Gazans

On Tuesday, during a conference held in the Knesset to examine possibilities for postwar Gaza, Gamliel said: “At the end of the war, Hamas rule will collapse. There are no municipal authorities; the civilian population will be entirely dependent on humanitarian aid. There will be no work, and 60% of Gaza’s agricultural land will become security buffer zones.”

“The Gaza problem is not just our problem,” Gamliel said. “The world should support humanitarian emigration, because that’s the only solution I know.”

Regarding #2, is that merely because the latest iteration (fall / winter 2023 varietal) of Israeli butchering frenzy will have reduced the Gaza population to 1.7 - 1.8 million by the time of this second forced emigration?
