Metropolitan DC Local Politics
The majority of Ward 3 residents have the types of jobs and child raising responsibilities that do not permit them to participate in nonstop community meetings. Which was never a problem because the ANCs were once filled with long term successful residents who were retirees. Now the ANCs are filled with young militants who are not encumbered by children or serious professional responsibilities. |
The good old days, when ANC commissioners were wealthy old people with lots of spare time.
|
Right. People who were successful and had real world experience. Now we are left with nonprofit workers, low level politely hacks, and part time academics with thin resumes. If someone says being elected to an ANC office is “the honor of a lifetime” we definitely are not getting the best and brightest. |
Honestly, they shouldn't even be allowed to vote. /s |
If you ran and won, then you would demonstrate that your world view is more popular, but where you are failing is that you probably live in a single family home, and some of the ANC commissioners you deride live in buildings on Connecticut Avenue. You need to understand that 80% of the people in ANC3C live in the buildings on Connecticut Avenue and 20% live in single family homes, so you have a bias with your neighbors of sharing the "popular view" when in fact, you are deep in the minority view. |
Yet the same people you claim have too many other committments are the same ones who dominated not just ANC3C but most of the ANCs in Ward 3 until about 10 years ago, when people woke up and saw how damaging the NIMBY view was to the housing affordability, transportation and streetscape on Wisconsin and Conneticut Avenues. Things are SO much better now. |
You are pining for the good old days when old retirees with nothing better to do with their time imposed their Boomer world view on the neighborhood and DC in general. |
We'd like to see practical people with diverse views on the ANC -- not a bunch of naive, so-called "progressives" being directed by a Trumper. |
City Ridge and Giant Cathedral Commons are fine, but what impact have they had on housing affordability or better transportation on the Wisconsin corridor? |
It seems to have been a motivating factor for the unsuccessful ANC candidate who now pulls the puppet strings for the ANC lockstep majority. |
The ageism consistently displayed by the ANC's middle finger crowd and their Twit(ter) friends is disturbing. |
"Young militants" isn't ageism, of course. |
Ok! Get them elected. Go for it. |
| In other news … I was by the 9th st protected bike lanes today at the AM rush hour. Amazingly, it was totally fine! Ample street parking on both sides. Bikers and scooters proceeding safely in their lanes. Car traffic proceeding smoothly. |
Ninth Street is not the Connecticut Avenue arterial. But bike lanes are "paused" there in any event. |
