| I can't help but feel a little uncomfortable spending 15k this year on vacations. One part of me says with two young kids, I should be saving more, but another part of me says that traveling is a priority to me and I shouldn't feel guilty. I'm thinking after this year, I should cap our traveling to no more than 10k. Our HHI is between 320-380k depending on the year. How much do you spend on vacation, and what's your hhi? Do you think you spend too much, too little or just right? |
| Varies depending on DH having fantastic --->meh business year. $25k for a week+ trip so far this year and another $10k upcoming for <week. Two summers ago we split a family beach cottage in Bethany for a week--fun as well but very different cash outlay. DC liked all vacations for different reasons and we've found that the variety is appreciated. |
| We spend no more than $5K per year on vacations for our family of 5. That includes a one-week beach trip slightly off-season in June and a week in Florida at Christmas. We tend to get hotels that offer breakfast or at the beach has a kitchen, so we generally only eat dinner out and maybe a few lunches. We drive. Household income is about $150K. |
| Wow, we spend no more than $2,000 - $3,000. Our HHI is around $250 and we have two kids in pre-school. Family of four. |

180k hubby and I work PT at 25-40k per year.
We take two 4-5k vacations a year. Martha's Vineyard and ski resort with MV being less expensive because we drive. Two years ago we took a Mediterranean cruise with extended family. We saved for two years for this delightful experience. |

| OP, our HI is about the same as yours. We have been spending about 7K/yr. Part of that is because I prefer less ambitious trips while my kids are still small. (Ages 4 and 2) I think we will increase our spending to around 10K as the kids get bigger, especially since school will interfere with getting off-season deals. I agree that travel is worth it and should be a priority. It is so expensive these days. I may spring for 15K every once in a while, but not every year. |
| Our HHI is 400k and we spend about 15k/year on family vacations. |
| Up to $25,000 for family of four. We get 5 weeks vacation a year and really enjoy our time together. Sometimes it a camping trip (minimal cost) and other times major US cities or to the Caribbean or Canada. Kids are small so we haven't gone too far yet. |
| Pp here. Our income is $250000 |

We don't go on any vacations. The last time I was on a vacation was for my honeymoon back in 2005. |
^sorry, our pre-tax HHI is about $160k (when people state their HHI, does that mean pre-tax or net?) |
| Probably average $5-8k a year on vacations for a family of five. I wish we could afford more but raising kids and putting them through college is expensive. HHI is $175k. |

All our family members live abroad, far away. A visit home to see them costs an enormous amount of money: plane tickets; in one country the family cannot accommodate us so there's a hotel stay in a much more expensive city than Washington DC; food (again, much more expensive than in the US). All this for 4 people. Since it's far, we plan to stay anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks, depending on whether we have enough vacation days and whether we're staying with family or not. So it would be at least 20K. No wonder we don't go every year. And it's just to visit close family, which sometimes doesn't even feel like a vacation!!! |
| Probably close to 20k-15k. We take two big family vacations that are typically 8-10k (we have three kids so flights, hotel stays, food for 5 people aren't cheap), one trip to the OBX which is around 6k, and then another to see family which is fairly inexpensive. |
