We went to Paradise in Herndon. They have a pretty decent buffet.
But about an hour after finishing the meal I felt bloated and uncomfortable even though we went for a walk in the mall for 30 mins after eating. I think it is only Indian food that makes me feel this way ....... and it is not even that I ate a lot. Do others have the same experience after eating Indian food in a restaurant? |
As you're leaving, look for a little dish of seeds (and sometimes brightly colored candy sugar bits that look like Nerds). A small spoonful of those, chewed after a meal, helps with digestion. |
Don't eat so much?
I never feel bloated, but I definitely over eat when it comes to Indian food. |
This happens to me, usually because I a) overeat, or b) eat things with cream (lactose intolerant). It seems that the spice only makes it worse. |
Chew on plain fennel seeds, not the sugar coated ones. Or a few cardamom seeds |
Americans think this type of Indian food is healthy and over eat. The only thing healthy is the grilled chicken plain, everything else is pure carbs and heavy animal fats. |
Could be due to edible soda that is sometimes added to "restaurant" Indian food. |
Indian curries are made with ghee (drawn butter) and you may not be used to it. Stick to the non-curry items (tandoori, chicken tikka, etc) and see if that helps. |
It could also be that your gut does not have many kinds of bacteria that various ethnic groups have.
Add more beneficial bacteria (and bacteria friendly foods) by incorporating the following to your diet - kimchi, kefir, sauerkraut, plain yogurt etc. |
Indian food is heavy -- even homemade, let alone restaurant food. So if you are over-eating, you will feel it after the fact. It could also be from any dairy based dishes you're eating -- as they are not made from milk but with heavy cream, which is heavy. With Indian I tend to eat until I'm half full; that's the best chance of feeling ok later. |
I'm Indian and eat Indian food often and always feel like this after a buffet- one that has meat or vegetarian. I am convinced they add some sort of soda to the food that bloats you and also fills you up. I can also take a nap ( something I otherwise can never do) after an Indian buffet- that might just be all the carbs though. |
Too much ghee, butter and cream in the typical Indian lunch buffets. Cooking soda is also sometimes added to maintain the color of the vegetables. I am Indian, but have the same reaction as OP after eating at the buffet. Which is why I do it only rarely. |
What about gluten? Maybe flour is added to thicken curries. |
Most Indian food is gluten free - yogurt is used as the thickener |
Noooo, we over eat b/c it's delicious. |
