ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Grandfather HS age team to stay in BY is a joke. I do not think most Q3/Q4 players want to stay in the current BY team to sacrifice their recruiting opportunities. For the few Q3/Q4 who wish to stay in the current team, then work hard to pass the tryout

Our ENCL-RL team is 50%-70% every year too, I wonder what particular drivers are in play that make it so volatile.

Can't wait for the press release this week, the uncertainty has been killing me.

2025 or 2026 roll out?

Both.

My club director mentioned 2026 and we are not in Southern California. What a waste of 2025

The majority of leagues will not start (most likely) until Fall 2026 but sound like there will be phases into it. Was explained to me in that way. Which is really dumb but that’s how they were able to get everyone on board.

ECNL will not be done in phases or at least I was told they would start right away. Possibly this spring for Aug to Dec 2010 and below.

I thought it was only one

They are trapped until they graduate. It’s 8th grade PLUS all 4 years of HS.

It’s especially bad when they are in 8, 10, 11, 12 (for different reasons).

9th is probably the best of the trapped player years (ie- the least impact).

Many teams seem to be planning for it to be implemented Fall 2025.

Delaying is the worst option for all but lazy DOCs.

I would love for it to take effect this spring for Aug-December 2010 and below. It would be great to not waste time and to see how teams shape up with this change immediately.

That would be stupid.
If a club doesn’t have many trapped players they will be at a huge disadvantage.

Will GA match ECNL in implementation?

That would their own fault. And what makes it a disadvantage exactly? Is someone openly admitting Aug to Dec kids don’t suck and are actually better than January kids? On average of course.

Doesn't seem like a good idea to kick back so many kids from 11v11 to 9v9 and from 9v9 back to 7v7 for half a season.

That’s the problem…kicking back kids into programs that don’t match their current program. U13 ecnl here…only trapped player on the team. U12 is 9v9 and a different price point. Do I get a pro rated refund?

Yes. I think most all leagues will, especially if US Soccer mandates it.
