I know dh and I hit a lot of rough patches bc the stress of young kids, jobs, inlaw issues, etc.

Sounds like any normal family quite frankly. The media pounces on it, though, bc putting Will and K on the cover of a mag or headlines on social media brings in money ; (embellished) scabdal just makes them bigger cash cows.

Agree. I've considered taking the kids and staying at my parents' house a few times when DH and I are in a rough spot. With school though, it would be a huge disruption. Do Kate's parents live close by, are the kids still going to school if she moves into her parents' house?

BRF fans say anything to justify the dysfunction!

I think her parents live like an hour and a half from Kensington Palace. I personally would not go that far if I were bickering with my spouse. But I don’t know where the kids school is relative to that. I personally would not take the kids that far for a spat but if the helicopter maybe it’s substantially shorter?

So you don't know.

If they want to keep whatever is going on under wraps they really have to make sure it doesn’t get out to outlets outside of the UK. They will truly be boned if the rota gets scooped.

The French publication that originally broke this story is retracting it.

Woah, this is incredible!

Everyday H&M's decision to leave the UK and move to California looks more and more brilliant.

I thought H&M were going to sell their California castle and move to New York?

Please shut this down. It’s all H&M sugars from CB posting. No real facts, just runouts.

They had 60 helicopter trips during 2020 Covid (it was in the public annual report) when the entire country was locked down and people were fined for leaving their municipality. So yes, that's the answer. Kate could easily take their private Silorsky helicopter back to Berkshire with the kids in 20 minutes or so.

I'm not seeing rage. Disdain and snark, yes. Frankly, all of my rage is expended on Putin these days.

I used to be able to compartmentalize my opposition to monarchy as a general principle and just enjoy the pageantry of it, the clothes, the adorable photos. (After all, it's not my government and tax money.) All of the scandals and bad, dysfunctional behavior of the royals, though, has killed the fun of it.

There is also a big overlap between monarchists in Britain and Brexiteers. The racist, xenophobic tinge of both just compounds the impression, so there is a bit of schadenfreude at seeing all of this play out.

That is part of the fun of it. The pageantry and the dysfunction. All of it.

The EU has been a mess for years, for decades. Culturally, economically, there have been all sorts of issues. Countries have benefitted and suffered from living in the EU, and several countries have threatened to leave or have been threatened with expulsion. Britian was the one who actually did it. From an objective standpoint, Brexit was not a bad idea. There was some shady stuff, too, but the biggest problem for the UK was covid. And IMO I'd rather be in Britain right now, with royals, than in China, with lockdowns.

As an American, I appreciate that the foundation of our culture came directly from England. We diverged years ago but we are still close. I don't begrudge them their monarchy.

Britain left the EU and has been suffering the consequences since. It was so bad for 2020/2021 they had to beg for extensions on trade deals because they couldn't import the goods they need. Now their crisis of living standard is at poverty levels. I'm not even sure what you're advocating here since the monarchy is a leech on the finances of the UK and in situations like this (see the 1910s/20s) most monarchies are killed off.

When you've got a local population crying about being unable to afford to feed their kids and one family living in 12 separate palaces/estates over 60,000 acres large - then yes, you're going to have tensions. Which is why you've seen Kate in a tiara in over 3 years.

I'm not advocating anything. I'm commenting that the UK is struggling due to covid and the international supply chain issues as well as trying to rewrite trade deals during a pandemic. It was terrible timing. You said in your post that 2020 and 2021 have been terrible years for Britain. Those are the pandemic years.

Also, as for advocating getting rid of the monarchy, the British will do what they want to do but that doesn't even make sense. The people voted for Brexit and the government did it. The monarchy didn't. You could chop their heads off but what good what that do?

It was terrible timing they chose. They were warned for YEARS not to pursue brexit - it would do them no good. As for the royals, senior royals like William got caught meeting with Conservative party officials - big no no. And notice that all of William's Private Secretaries are actually Tory officials? Simon Case and Jean-Christopher Gray worked for the two current and former Conservative Prime Ministers.

As for the monarchy having nothing to do with Brexit? You're kidding right. The monarch, meaning the Queen, prorogued Parliament - which allowed them to push Brexit through. It was not going to pass otherwise.

The royals sided with the rich, let them sort it out when the poor come knocking. And as you're so into American ties to the British, notice we too kicked them out when they started taxing us unfairly for their palace upkeep.
