Gaza War, Part 3

Anonymous
Far-right Settlements Minister Orit Strock reportedly sparred with a top-ranking military official at a cabinet meeting on Sunday, after she questioned the conduct of Israeli Air Force pilots regarding air support for ground troops in Gaza.

“Is it true that there are pilots who are refusing to bomb for reasons of conscience, and aren’t giving support to the ground forces?” Strock, a member of the Religious Zionism Party, was quoted as asking by multiple outlets.

Looks like those liberal Israeli pilots are acting up at the wrong time. These are the same units who refused call ups during the Supreme Court reform. Hopefully these liberal will be made an example of by Bibi?

The question was baseless and mocked by everyone (to include the IDF) as there was no proof of the claim. You would have known this had you bothered to read your article before posting.

If Israel can not stand by itself after 75 years it will always be a dependent of the US. It’s time to end our support for Israel.

Israel is viewed as a key US ally in the Middle East. The Guardian had a long article that pointed out that the US keeps a lot of our weapon stockpile in Israel (we sort of use it like a military base).

Hamas used Al-Shifa hospital as a command center.

This disgusting Hamas tactic effectively turned the injured patients and doctors into human shields.

But, what else would you expect from a designated terrorist organization like Hamas or IS ?

What, no WMD? No glass vial to shake?

Not a subscriber to NY times, but I can tell you that neither side is squeaky clean or spotless and the first casualty in war is the truth.
Right now it is the Palestinians who are doing the dying and suffering in very large numbers.
The end does not justify the means, not anymore

The bolded- it has ALWAYS been Palestinians being murdered and otherwise killed in very large numbers since the late 1940s, and 10/7/23 is the sole exception. When you frame the conflict as you do, it’s dishonest.

Yes, they have a lot of casualties because they start wars and can't finish them. They are not the victims.

“They”? Do you think all Palestinians are to blame? Such a lack of compassion.

My understanding from reading history is that Zionists were the original provocateurs. Palestinians responded. Violence escalated with each and every back and forth. Vastly more Palestinians have died (and kidnapped, ie held without charges) than Israeli over the years. The suffering that the escalation has now reached is terrible. And has just created a new generation of people who hate Israel.

I hope the US begins to link support to Israel to changes in how they treat Palestinians. I believe this will happen in the next 20-30 years.

Did your “reading” start with Arab riots off 1835?

Why did you quote “reading”? So odd. I quoted “They” since I was pointing out that you shouldn’t group all Palestinians together.

I am no historian but a quick Google search showed that this was part of a Druze revolt against Egyptian rule? The attack of Safed was because the Druze believed the Jewish villagers were colluding with the Egyptians. I am sure there are many many events of bad activity from all religious and ethnic groups in the region going back thousands of years. My basic point is that violence in recent history (the last 100 years or so) has ping ponged back and forth between Zionists/Israelis and Palestinians with escalating violence and this is a cycle that is unsustainable. Zionists were certainly provoking (as were Palestinians in return). If we go farther back in time the level of accuracy of historical events becomes quite murky.

This is a good thing. The U.S. taking steps to ensure its defense and protection, who could be against that?

By your logic a war cannot have victims

Your response makes no sense at all.
A war has belligerents.

Well if Israel is at war with Hamas why are Israelis so upset about Hamas killing Israelis?

Then why are Gazans upset at being killed?
Leave the rest of us out of it then.

Belligerents is the key word you skipped.

Israel is not an ally if you consider an alliance to be mutually beneficial. They have never and will never deploy alongside US troops in combat. Those weapons caches are meant for use by the Israelis. On paper they are ours, but that's were we go when Israel needs their stockpiles replenished. We have the same stockpiles in Turkey and the Gulf States

The problem with that logic is that nobody who isn't already bought (U.S. political class), racist (white supremacists, primarily Evangelicals), pre-disposed to Israeli support regardless the matter at hand (Jews in the U.S.), or clueless and prone to believing absurd propaganda could possibly trust people like Bibi and his corrupt cronies. There's nothing inherently good that comes from trusting depraved scumbags who behave like Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir, Smotrich, etc.

your whole point is that Israel and Israelis are bad to the core, so they are never to be trusted. Your argument depends on this premise. Those of us who know this premise is not true, are fine with the current arrangements.

According to your barbarian nature, everything is tit for tat, eye for an eye, in diplomacy and in war. The modern world doesn't work this way.

I’m not so sure. I think there must be a reason for the US unwavering support of Israel. Maybe we just don’t know all the details?

(I would also add that I think the reasoning should be disclosed and we should explore if it really is legit or can be changed bc I am horrified by their ongoing actions)

Every country that we consider an ally deploys at least token forces alongside US forces. Israel is the sole exception. What has Israel ever done that has benefited the US?
