Alexandria School Board Candidates

I keep seeing Ish signs up everywhere but do people even know what he stands for?? He wants to keep School Resource Officers instead of getting funding for mental health professionals… In a high school that is predominantly Black and Hispanic he wants police officers!!! WHY don’t people actually find out what candidates stand for. Yeah, he’s a nice neighbor but I DO NOT want him on the school board

His family is against wearing masks in schools. Lots of other far-right opinions. The fact that he keeps harping on the SROs also shows that he doesn't even understand basic stuff, because that was a decision made my the City Council, so there's nothing he could do as a school board member to change that.

So a really bad combination of ignorant and not representing the views of the vast majority of Alexandria residents. Hard no.

Do you not understand that most of the kids at ACHS actually want the SROs back in the school, too?

I mean, I agree with you about Ish. He sounds like an idiot, especially with his lack of masking, yet every once in a while a blind squirrel does find a nut. This is his. Returning SROs to ACHS and the middle schools is the right thing to do.

I haven’t heard this about the students. Where is this info? I’d love to hear more so I’m educated about this. Interesting.

Why is Jeff deleting posts supportive of Ish?

Yeah we should just let kids continue beating the sh!t out of each other. I'm not voting for him because he's an anti-masker but we absolutely should bring the SROs back.

The current school board voted to keep SROs. So even if Ish is running on this, it doesn't really differ from the status quo.

For those who doubt the veracity of statements above that there is widespread support for the SROs to return to schools, go to the petition on Facebook and/or read the posts on Nextdoor. It is pretty clear that a majority of students, staff and parents desire for the SROs to return to the schools.

And as multiple people have pointed out, the current school board did not remove SROs. City Council pulled them. If you care about this, take it up with the folks running for election for City Council.

You don't have to vote for Ish to show support for SROs. Vote for the other A candidates, who are more qualified and better represent the attitudes of the Alexandria community.

It's the blacks that are fighting in the videos I've seen.

A fair number of students in the International Academy want SROs back. But my understanding is that most kids in the regular ACHS do not.

Your understanding is wrong. Talk to the kids. They will tell you. They want the SROs back.

Exactly. You are there and have an understanding of it. I’m also curious who are the people filling out the survey or petition? Is it a certain demographic or inclusive of all views??

If we don’t want them to continue to fight! But I went to a high school with similar demographics and we had 3
SROs and it didn’t stop the fighting or the drug deals or the sawed off shot guns from happening on campus. But maybe if these kids can talk through baggage with a mental health professional it might just help them
