This post and the one about lack of collaboration in youth soccer landscape, e.g., clubs next door that want talk or put their teams in the same league due to a pissing match, are so true. Now everyone is driving hundreds of thousands of mile each year for matches---when there are enough top teams in a 30 mile radius to fill a League. Only we can't do that because of Clubs that won't talk to one another and want to 'separate' themselves into a different league to say it's more elite than the other one. Save the travel for tournaments and let the leagues be local. Btw, the system works when those in the asylum fight amongst themselves. Parents that buy into this crap lock, stock and barrel are letting it continue. Each year---it gets even more far-flung and crazy. Nothing like driving several hours for a blowout when the team 15 minutes away would be a fight to the finish. |

| ^ when the drive to get there is longer than the match---it cannot be considered local. |
True and when two or three road trips happen in a 9-10 game season such trips cannot be considered "weekly". |

All great questions to ask before one clicks accept on the team offer. There is transparency with this that nobody should be caught off guard.
The barn door was left open long ago on the overall topic of the necessity of the travel. It is what it is now. Pick the situation that makes sense for you and your family regardless of league status etc. It is your money, your time, your family. |
Completely agree. I read the account of the showdown at the party, and thought about how much better I'd feel if I'd had the chance/bravery to publicly set the record straight after a lying TD slandered our family for leaving a club. I've seen a lot of horrible behavior from coaches and TDs in this area, and people are extremely naive if they think retaliation doesn't happen. There are plenty of good people out there too, even at large clubs, but you have to do a lot of due diligence to find them. |
| My son came home from a practice and was bad mouthing a kid after he had left our club for some unknown reason. He informed me that the coach used this kid's name as a the butt of all the jokes during the practice, "why are you so slow, you look like little jimmy run? Quit playing like jimmy, get control of the ball". I wanted to call the coach out for targeting a little boy when the final decision was probably from the parents. But knew that this coach was petty enough to punish my kid for my actions. |
Yeah you won’t see any of that at FCB. |
Yup, coaches get all butt hurt and take it out on kids. |
| let's be clear, the Barcelona program is not a charity either, it's a business too. there's a reason they said up in loudon and not Southeast DC. see how long the coaches stick aroaround if the membermembership fee$ stop |
They grew their registration numbers this year. Whats your point? |
They won’t, because they’re not doing anything wrong. |
I see the crazy has gone into overdrive in this thread, as predicted. I was calling bullshit on the story because the poster won't name the club and coach. If he told him off in public, there's no reason not to here. It's a bullshit story and this is a bullshit thread being propelled by one or two people in need of psychiatric help. Still waiting for the coach and club. |
