Who did you think killed JonBenet?

Anonymous
NP here, who is looking forward to the documentary: wasn't it established, through the autopsy, that JB had suffered prior sexual abuse? The constant UTIs and bedwetting support that. I do think Burke struck her with the flashlight. I think he had been hurting his sister in one way or another for some time, and his mother knew but wasn't worried (for reasons I can't even fathom - was she a child victim too?) I also think that Patsy was responsible for the staging and introduced the garrotte to show a type of sexual sophistication that wouldn't be associated with a child offender, to protect Burke.

The American Girl doll evidence that came to light is just too much to overlook when it comes to Patsy's involvement. The tape, the strange fibers...

I think Burke hit her in the head in the kitchen while having pineapple, when she was sitting down. Then she slumped over and hit her face on the table. Patsy was either there and began the cover up alone, later involving her husband - OR

Patsy waited for JB to wake up, freaking out, JB began to seize or slipped into a coma and they thought she was dead - then the staging began OR

Burke dragged her downstairs, and decided to torture her a bit. This one feels too weird, I think.

Bottom line - I think Burke had to have done the bash to the head. I don't think either parent would have, its unlikely it was a pure accident - in that, the blow was intended to inflict pain, but the striker did not appreciate the risk - and neither parent would cover for the other. Both would perhaps cover for Burke. The strangling/sexual abuse/staging/ransom - that sounds like Patsy's flair for the dramatic pageantry. I think that is all her. And I think the husband just played a small part. I bet this is the conclusion this new TV investigation comes to.

I agree with many aspects of your theory but I thought that there was forensic evidence backing up the strangling/sexual assault. It was more than just Patsy's flair for drama.

Oh, there is, but the strangling was apparently done with the child face down so they wouldn't have to look at her, the sexual assault was done quickly with an object - police said it was unlikely it was sexually motivated and it was done after the child was dead. Odd. All of the materials for the garrote were taken from the house, from the basement. It is just too ODD.

I wonder if either parent had watched a show that featured a garrote before that night like a NYPD crime type show... It was what 96, right? Was a law & order on yet?

Yes - Law & Order started in '90.

My daughter has constant UTIs and bedwetting. She has kidney reflux and it took years to diagnose. At JB's age, it wasn't diagnosed, but part of our daily lives.

I just watched them being questioned on you tube.

They both denied it was Patsy's handwriting on several photos, which to me says they're both lying. Who else wrote on those photos but just happened to have writing like the killer?

The dad also seemed like a take charge know it all. I think patsy did it and dad covered for her. I guess it's possible the son did it but it seems like most investigators think it was the mom for whatever reason.

This is interesting...are they showing the interrogation tapes?

PP you're responding to here - yeah, there are plenty of reasons for UTIs and bedwetting. But, in this case, it was established that there was physical evidence of prior sexual trauma. UTIs and bedwetting can help support THAT theory. I'm not saying that sexual abuse is always the reason for UTIs and bedwetting at that age.

I also am having a hard time imagining a mother smacking her child on the head so hard with an object like a flashlight.

That is what made me wonder about the doll. I can see how maybe this was done accidentally on purpose - she meant to hit JonBenet with the doll but forgot how hard the plastic legs were. Or something like that. Kind of like hitting someone with a pillow and not realizing (or remembering) that there's a rock inside.

Exactly the same as my daughter. Well, I don't know about the age, as I don't know JB's age at death... my daughter was a rising 1st grader when it was finally diagnosed and repaired.

I read the whole Reddit AMA someone linked to a while back and it was very interesting (and morbid). The guy thinks Burke did it and that it probably happened in the kitchen. He also talked about just how much and in which ways the original investigation was botched and shed light on several clues including Burke's toy trains. No one has all the answers and his theory may not be correct but it was a very interesting read.

Agree with everything you posted..

Did you all know there was a made for tv movie about this featuring Kris Kristofferson and Ann-Margret? KK plays Lou Smit and A-M plays Patsy's mother. It was terrible! I watched it anyway.

Wasn't a lead investigator in the original case, answering questions on reddit? I read part of it, it was horrid.

yes, Mark Beckner

It was pretty interesting. He seemed to definitely think it was Patsy or Burke.
