thank fuck these are precisely the people who are losing life expectancy, as shown by the deaton paper.

NP here - I grew up in small town Pennsylvania and can confirm 100% that the support for Trump comes from small-mindedness, lack of vision, most people never went beyond high school and their interests are mainly just limited to sports and hunting, their world view mainly just comes from TV and movies.

If the people you're describing are hard-working, honest, and doing their best to take care of their families, your criticism of them reflects poorly on you, despite our "open-mindedness and vision."

Where it comes to choices of politicians and ideologies they certainly are NOT doing the best to take care of their families.

I can't see myself voting for Trump but what is refreshing about him is that he speaks his mind.

He really does not care what others think unlike most of the candidates who are doing well who poll test just about everything of any consequence before saying it.

Trump 2016!!

Can you tell me how he will do this exactly? I can absolutely get behind a candidate with a clear plan to do so.

Listen we don't need any more politicians with "twelve point plans" that they will never be able to follow anyway. We need someon with decisiveness and know how. He'll figure it out as he goes along. Like George W.

George W.'s is a path that you want us to go down again?

It looks like about 30% of Brits agree with Trump about limiting Muslims from entering their country at least on a temporary basis:

What a weak response. That's your inflated ego's opinion.

I think you are right. I think many people support his ideas or at least his stance on immigration, refugees, and terrorists even if they don't admit it. They may end up voting for him at the polls and never admit they support him. Even as a liberal that Byrd for Obama twice, some of the things he says make sense to me.

I had an interesting discussion today with a legal immigrant from Central America. She is incredibly intelligent, hard working and a student of history. Her take is that Hillary is completely untrustworthy and would be a disaster for the country as Hillary is all about Hillary. Trump is a pompous ass but is the only one who has the courage to say what needs to be said particularly regarding immigration. She less concerned about ISIS than the gang members from her country that sneaking into the US and bringing their violence and corruption with them. She said it is unfortunate that Trump's delivery mechanism is overshadowing his message and is thus, too divisive but she 100% believes the U.S. needs to do a better job of managing the flow of illegal immigrants and needs to more closely monitor work visas that are destroying the job market for too many Americans (e.g., tech field). She also thinks we need to terminate policies that are pushing American jobs oversees and stop bombing the hell out of the Middle East. It was an interesting discussion coming from someone with a very different life experience.

I think there is a large section of the populace on both sides of the aisle who are fed up with Washington elites ignoring the will of their constituents. Their ego and elitism makes them believe they know what is best for the peons and people have had it up to their ears with the paternalism. People are just plain fed up and sadly, that is what has given rise to Trump. I fear a lot of people will "pull the lever" for Trump in the privacy of the voting booth. Personally I cannot believe that this is the best that both parties have to offer. An old, untrustworthy white woman and an old socialist on one side (heavy on the old in both cases) and a lunatic, a Christian fanatic and a host of diversity without substance on the other. At this point I do not see anyone I could vote for in good conscience. I hope one of the candidates can change my mind as I have never missed a national election and have crossed back and forth across the aisle many times. It is time to take the leadership of both parties to task as, imho, they are not only destroying their parties, they are destroying the country.

I also voted for Obama twice and secretly agree with a lot of what Trump says. I'll probably pull the lever for him.

My narcissicistic teenager really doesn't care. Like Trump, he also is neither qualified nor possesses the temperament, experience and judgment to be President.

I am a female immigrant with a graduate degree who, although irked by Trump's style, appreciates his directness and will vote for him if an opportunity arises.

I am not saying I agree that they are voting against there best interests. However, it may be hard for you to believe, but some people vote for the good of the nation and not what they believe to best for them individually. Novel idea, huh?

My husband is also a Latino immigrant and agrees with most of the above, too. I'm not 100% certain he'd vote for Trump, but there's no way in hell he'd vote for Hillary. He voted for Obama the first time and Gary Johnson the second time. He'd never vote for anyone ultra-religious like Cruz or Romney, but he suspects Trump is a closet athiest (I agree) and I could see him pulling the lever for Trump over whoever is on the Third Party ballot if Trump got the nomination.

So many people are so gullible. Trump does not care about you and he is not going to do anything for you. He is just parroting your fears and prejudices to get an emotional reaction, but there is nothing behind the statements. Here are the first three "proposals" from a Trump speech in Iowa this week:

"We are going to build a wall. Mexico is going to pay for the wall. We will have security and all the drugs will stop and the only people coming into the country will be legal."

"We are going to repeal Obamacare. Boom. It's going to be repealed and it will be replaced with something that will be so good, so much better."

"Believe me, I can take care of China in my back pocket. That's easy for me. That's what I do."
