How to help MCPS' lowest performing students?

Without the parents being on their case to study, they are not going to improve. BTW - this requires a lot of sacrifice from parents because they have to be present, vigilant and make sure that the kids are getting the help. Lots and lots of hours of making your kids study.

You can't. Education is not valued by these parents and family - due to poverty, dysfunction, culture, language barrier etc. Parents themselves are ill-educated or uneducated. There is poverty and lot of neglect, abuse, abandonment of children. There is zero understanding of the value of education in the modern world and what opportunities it can make available for people.

This is the underclass population. And what needs to be done is to give them the training that can actually be of practical use to them for menial jobs that will not be taken over by AI.

Many of these families do value it but the opportunities are not the same at all schools and kids who have special needs, delays, language barriers needs are not being met.

When the kids are falling asleep at their desks, go knock on the door with a social worker. You'd be surprised what's happening at home with these kids.
