Interview w Dr. McKnight and her attorney

Sweet merciful crap that was painful. And not a good look for her. Or her bumbling attorney. No idea why she is insisting on scorching the earth like this. I know it is going to be hard for her to find work in the ed field again with this scandal attached to her, but at this point her own PR “strategy” is turning future work into an impossibility.

When I was in school in Baltimore in the 80s, MoCo had the reputation of being the top county school system in the country.

Not so much anymore.

Unsurprisingly, many things change in 40 years.

For those of us in MCPS back then, it was pretty bad then too.

I feel my kids are getting a much better education today than I did in MCPS 40 years ago but we also value education. The problem today is a lot of families and students just don't care about school.

If we got rid of virtual academy we could get educational outcomes up a bit. But there are still parents that would rather send their kids off on a ski trip than to school.

Thats not why parents want virtual, but nice try. You sound stuck in 1998. Breaking news: not all students learn the same way. Virtual academy offers that for students who do not do well in a school setting but deserve a public education just like your kid. Virtual academy isn't doing anything to harm your child's education. Educate yourself first. Then try to evolve with the rest of us into the current century. The rest of the country has. MCPS parents are so desperate to keep MCPS stuck in the past, no wonder we're falling behind. Your argument is also just so 2020 and pathetic at this point. Give it up. (And no, my kids aren't in virtual school..I'm just not an ignorant moron who is only capable of seeing one point of view.)

Well, didn't take her long to blame on being a black woman. So disappointing that she can't reflect about her tenure and track record. But no, she'd rather burn the whole county down. She's the worst.
Anonymous
They should just fire her and be done with it if she won't resign.
Anonymous
I knew she was a mistake from the start. I realize it’s a tough job. But way beyond her capacity.

McKnight, Pls leave with condition that a competent person follows.

That was surprisingly awkward considering it was arranged by McKnight and her lawyer.

Yea I’m not sure why they did an interview right now. Simple response to reporters asking questions would have sufficed and mostly for ones that triggered the BOE to respond would have been best.

False
She will immediately have a new job. Fired superintendents are no big deal in education.

The virtual academy has what, 1500 students. How would that make a difference and many kids didn't do the testing so that data isn't accurate. Kids in virtual aren't off on a ski trip. If you really think the virtual academy is the sole issue and getting rid of it would improve MCPS, yea, good luck with that.

Maybe its your parenting that is the problem.

The kids in HS are getting a more advanced curriculum but I don't think it better. They don't teach the basics and if you as a parent don't, the kids will struggle later on as they don't have that foundation.

Totally setting aside whether termination is justified, she must be living in some kind of crazy echo chamber to think this was the right play.

She was probably advised by an attorney to do it.

If that’s the case, she has a better chance of recovering damages from the lawyer for malpractice than she does of keeping her job or beating MCPS in court.

Winning in her case just means not being terminated for cause. And when you look at her employment contract, you'd have a hard time making that case against her.

MCPS will back down and she'll get the one-year severance.

Looking at her employment contract and the Jackson Lewis report, the case for terminating her is very strong.

I laughed out loud when they asked her if she had read the OIG reports and she shook her head no while the attorney said “we can’t answer that right now”

Also, I didn’t think MCPS employees had such free will to talk to the press like that. Wish I could talk on the news about how I was unfairly treated by administrators that didn’t let follow “the process”. That’s the whole problem with MCPS, anyone in leadership knows they can do WHATEVER they want without consequences because NOBODY follows the process. McKnight is such a hypocrite

She obviously craves being the center of attention. Just look at all the money she has pumped into PR and those awful videos she makes

Fox5 needs better fact checking. Beidleman wasn’t “going to be” the principal at PB, he actually was the principal for a month! He was the opening speaker at the July RT training and set up individual private meetings with PB staff. That was a creepy request to read on email.

Her lawyer is unimpressive, just like she is. Good grief.
