Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Monifa B. McKnight says school board officers recently indicated “their desire for me to step away” from the role, according to a statement released Monday. |
Oh this is gonna be messy

“ “The Board has never written, documented, or communicated any concern about my performance, and through the evaluation process has consistently affirmed that I have met expectations,” McKnight said in the statement. “For these reasons, I’m concerned that its actions are based on something other than my performance, which would constitute a violation of my contract.””
Is she alleging racism? Sexism? Other bias? |
The board needs to step down along side her. |
Plus 1000! |
Look, if this is Step One in the BoE beginning to actually exercise their oversight function, then I welcome them to the party. Better late than never. |
Of course that’s what she’s alleging! |
I would guess disability/medical based on her recent leave of absence. I have no inside knowledge though. |
My 2 cents: she can try to fight it all she wants, but if she does, there will be a huge legal battle that will add to what’s already been a mountain of disruption for the school system. It also further destroys our reputation as a place that chases out Superintendents.
When many people in your leadership team have been implicated, you have to point the finger at yourself eventually. Either way, she’s screwed and should’ve seen this coming. If she really cares about kids, she’s step away. If not, the BOE will just decline to renew her contract. This, ladies and gents, is why you don’t pick someone who was only a principal for 5 years (in a smaller well resourced middle school no less), who only taught for 7 years before admin, and who had <5 years of central office experience. It’s not about race, it’s about her not reading the room. But hey, maybe now, she can look on the bright side: she can be a high paying consultant for “equity” who does nothing substantial. |
The board has supported all her decisions so yes, it's nice if they are finally stepping up but they also need to go. All this happened under their watch too. |
It could certainly be interpreted that she is implying discrimination, but what I am seeing is they wanted her to resign and she has refused and demands they fire her, which is harder for them to do. She probably got the idea from Biedelman who I'm sure has made similar arguments. I wonder if he has been fired yet. |
She had a vote of no confidence by admin and staff. She lost all of our respect years ago, and it’s about time the board does something about it. Teachers knew how worthless and terrible she was from the beginning. |
Discrimination would be an easy way to fight it. Did she ever move to the county? Wasn't that part of the contract? |
She should have resigned after the Beidleman scandal |
