This so much. I support bike lanes and think they need to be designed well for maximum safety to both kinds of vehicles. But I strongly believe that in shared lanes, all vehicles need to stop at every intersection with a stop sign or red light, cyclists need to be barred from all busy sidewalks, and they need to have tags and licenses to curb their free-for-all behavior and ensure some accountability for their actions in these shared spaces.

What are your thoughts on barring cars from busy sidewalks?

Slightly over 10% of pedestrian fatalities from automobiles occur on sidewalks, not at intersections or driveways. Yes, just cars driving on the sidewalk.

Man, cars sure are dangerous. We should require tags and licenses to curb their free-for-all behavior and ensure some accountability for their actions in shared spaces.

Well seeing as we do that already and cars still kill hundreds of thousands of people a year, perhaps we should redesign street so that cars actually have to slow down and encourage transportation methods that are safer and don't kill as many people

Now wait a minute bub, cyclists are the real problem here. Nothing makes me madder than seeing a cyclist zip by when I'm stuck in traffic. It's just not fair!! We should widen roads so cars can drive faster, and there should be free parking wherever I want to go. One time I saw a cyclist fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. We shouldn't let them get away with that! They need to learn to follow the rules of the road, like drivers do.

Do you think boxing can be made safe?

Do you think football can be made safe?

No, you don't.

And, for the same reasons, riding a bike in a major city will never be safe either.

You're free to ride. But stop being such crybabies about the risks you choose to run.

The risks we assume are coming from sociopaths like you.

Uh, well, you obviously don't know the definition of a sociopath. So you're dumb and also a crybaby.

You have no empathy for the humanity of cyclists. That's a textbook definition of sociopath.

Pretty much everyone hates cyclists, don't they? Even cyclists' mothers hate them. They're the worst people on the road.

Poe's law in action. It's genuinely impossible to discern someone satirizing the insane drivers who foam at the mouths even thinking about cyclists from someone who sincerely holds those beliefs.

Just this morning I was proceeding on a green light when a cyclist came barreling through the intersection straight across me on the red light, and gives me the finger while I have to slam on my breaks. Their light was dead red. Is this what Che wants to legalize?? How in the world could this possibly work and why not just remove all lights and stop signs if it’s going to be a free for all?

No, it's not. And you would know that if you took two seconds to read the proposal.

I've been driving in DC for over 30 years and never seen what you just described.

Does biking involve being slammed in the head all the time? No? Then yes, it can be made safe.

Why is driving a car so dangerous? Maybe that should be the starting premise.
