Yup. They want to tear it down so they can privatize. Elites want to get their private school tuitions subsidized. |
+1. My DD feels the same way. |
I agree with you, but what non-shitty private school isn't requiring masks right now? |
Are people aware that most other countries have not been masking kids? Even during Omicron primary schools have not had to mask citing how important seeing faces are for young children. Our area has a high vax rate and Omicron is presenting as milder and treatments are around the corner. I don’t understand the fidelity to making. I really struggle wearing mine and my kids are just totally over it. The whole thing is very sad to me. People that are high risk or have a high risk family member can use n95s. Why is it so crazy to even want to discuss unmasking? This area is so tribal. I feel like I live among trumpers (in terms of their tribalism). |
THIS. |
Many countries where masking is not required for primary schools test at least 2 times a week. That is not happening in Virginia public schools. While there may be no randomized controlled trials on the effectiveness of masks (the Bangladesh study came close and yes, I know it has been critiqued but most experts do not believe its finding that surgical masks are effective at reducing infection), there are lot of mask studies and they show that masks do work and are effective in reducing infection (see Your Local Epidemiologist post - https://yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/p/a-quick-note-on-masks-and-cdc-guidance). Of course school districts could try harder to implement outdoor lunch and increase indoor ventilation, but during the middle of a viral surge, implementing as many tools as possible is important and masking is a helpful mitigation measure especially since distancing cannot be implemented, testing is not where it needs to be, and vaccination among kids age 5-11 is low. For students and school staff who are at risk of severe illness from Covid, wearing an n95 is not as effective when others are not also wearing a mask. ACPS will be distributing KN95 masks to staff and students next week and are looking to secure more KN95 masks for the coming weeks. I am appreciative that they are trying their best during this tough time. I think when rates come down, it is worthwhile to discuss an off ramp for masking and this should be tied to an agreed upon threshold of community spread |
You may send your kids to school with masks but many don’t wear them properly once they’re at school. It’s a constant battle to keep them on. |
PP here - a key correction - While the Bangladesh mask study has been critiqued for being a cluster randomized controlled trial, it did make use of a control group and many experts DO nonetheless agree with the key finding of the Bangladesh study - that villagers provided with surgical masks were less likely than those in the control village (no masks) to develop Covid-19 and that the protective effect of surgical masks was even more for those over 60. |
Youngkin is another puppet even though he says he isn't. I hope all the parents who voted for him thinking he would help their precious snowflakes are now waking up and smelling the putrid coffee. |
They DGAF about masks. They just want to fuel division and encourage parents to fight against public schools. |
My how bitter we are, aren’t we? |
Well my DS thinks your DD is crazy |
Not bitter - just rolling my eyes and saying "told you so" - hope you and your family have fun isolating each time you get COVID. |
Of course. We are not sociopaths. |
What’s testing like in the countries you’re referring to? |
