Steak at Walmart - not Whole Foods/Balducci/all grass-fed organic POOR PEOPLE'S STEAK - is now $20 and locked up in its own cage.
Biden needs to take this seriously. https://www.tiktok.com/@oakwood19136/video/7061652820252200239 ![]() |
+1000000 They told us to stop whining because it was 'transient' and that the only thing increasing in prices were caviar, high end beef, and crab, lol. Imagine being so delusional and out of touch. |
While I agree inflation is a problem and the government has to take it seriously, I also think that, depending on where you live, you can find cheaper options if you just do a bit of research.
Have you discovered Lidl yet? Not fancy, but they have one cut of ribeye on sale right now (in Northern VA) for $4.99/lb. https://www.lidl.com/products/1265614. All their basics--eggs, cheese, milk, free-range/grass-fed and conventional beef and chicken, many fruits and vegetables, etc.--are usually cheaper than most anywhere else. Give them a try. |
Inflation is here for awhile due to labor shortage. Wages will go up as companies compete but they should try other benefits, IMHO. Labor shortage will get worse.

People know how to shop cheaper. But it is a privilege to be able to say 'I'm going to go Lidl and Giant today, Walmart and King Soupers next week, Frys and Winco on Saturday, and then check Aldis and Trader Joes the week after' to find the one with the best price. A) A lot of people don't have the TIME to physically hop into cars to go on a treasure hunt for lower prices, B) A lot of people live 45 minutes - 1 hr drive from a SINGLE grocery store in their areas - so the prices are the prices, and C) You're assuming someone has a car and can get to more far-flung grocery shopping options in the first place. Privilege. Which is ironic to say as the Democratic party is supposed to represent the poorest among us. I'd say being able to afford food, and no not just if you have kids, is pretty important. |
PP. I qualified my what I said with the following, which you chose to ignore: "I also think that, depending on where you live, you can find cheaper options if you just do a bit of research." And there's no need to drive around looking for cheaper groceries--you can find prices on line and compare before you drive out to a grocery store. Obviously someone living in a rural area or an urban food dessert r someone who doesn't have a car wouldn't have as many choices as we do here in the DC metro area. |
It ultimately still represents a decline in standards of living to go to a cheaper supermarket. Many people are starting to do what you're saying, including shifting to store brands over labels, which is typical of inflationary periods in the past. They're seeing evidence of this emerging in buying patterns. No one is going to starve, thankfully, but it's a conscious decline in standards of living and that is always difficult, even on a low level. |
I'm not trying to be flippant but you're giving serious 'Google It' vibes. Not to mention the President is in-charge of making life affordable not just residents within 50 miles of the White House but the entire country. That sea-to-shining-sea logic is literal. |
USDA Prime ribeye is NOT "poor people's steak". That's also an almost 2lb steak. The price shown of $12/lb is also cheap for that particular cut of meat. These are all facts. |
USDA prime ribeye is high end beef |
I can drive to Lidl after I fill up my car with gas that's exploding in price, and after paying my utility bills that are exploding. Oh yeah, I hope I have enough money to shop at Lidl after I pay my rent that's now exploding too. |
+1000000 These idiots live in a complete DMV bubble. They can drive to 20 grocery stores in a 20 mile radius. I mean how out of touch do you have to be to realize that giant swaths of the country do not have that luxury? Many poor people don't even have cars and only have limited options via public transport. Many people live in more suburban or rural areas where a trip can take over 30 min -1 hour each way and there are only 1, 2, or 3 stores around. People really need to get out of the DMV/coastal echo chambers. |
Inflation is so bad that the Federal Reserve is now going to hold an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss the issue. Stop telling us that it isn't a problem. The Fed is peeing its diapers now. |
EMERGENCY MEETING! Such drama. This should have been on their radar and regular order of business for months. Makes me think the Fed does not have competent people running it. |
Take your "DMV bubble" hysteria elsewhere. Cost of living and goods in the DMV is higher than it is in rural America. If we can still find food at reasonable prices in the DMV then you can, too. And for the record, my relatives in rural America have Aldi and other cheap stores too. Get out of the bubble of right wing message boards populated by losers who rarely get out of their mom's basements into the real world. |
