| I'm considering going PT and working 4 days instead of 5. I'm inclined to take off Mondays. I like my Fridays and feel like the office vibe is a little more relaxed. Traffic is not as bad on Fridays. I like the idea of having the weekend with my family and then having Monday to get ready for the week (cook, shop, etc.) and do things that I didn't get done with the kids underfoot. The biggest disadvantage that I can see is that I will lose at least 5 paid holidays per year (MLK Day, Pres. Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day). I guess I will shift the Sunday night blues to Monday, but that is unavoidable. I also worry that there are typically more meetings and such scheduled for Mondays than Fridays, but I will have to work around that. I also considered taking off Wednesday but that has its own advantages/disadvantages. What would you do? |
| My BIL takes Tuesdays off. It's awesome for him when Mondays are a holiday - 4 day weekends! Tues is a lot slower at the store, it's easier to get dr appts, it's a good break in the week. |
I telework on Wednesdays and couldn't be happier as i get more office work and work at home things done done mid-week. Mondays prep for the week and Fridays wrap up the week and you also mentioned a lot of missed 3-day weekend holidays. The week ends up going faster with 2 days in the office, then home a day, then back in the office for 2 more days. |

I think Mondays are a hard day to be out if you are career oriented - its the day everyone is in.
If you are a little more low- key or auto pilot and don't care about getting ahead, Mondays are a good day to be out. |
| I also telework Wednesdays and *love* it - really breaks up the week. And you never lose a (Friday or Monday) holiday. |

Tuesday or Wednesday
Monday is a holiday too often. |
| I have kids so Monday as that is often a parent teacher conference day for DCPS |
|
I telework on Thursdays and love it.
BUT, if I was going to only work 4 days a week and was able to pick which 4 days, I'd work M-Th and have Friday's off. No real reason other than it would be great to have every Friday off. |
| I would go for Tuesdays. It is still early enough in the week that you can get the weekly prep done, plus you have the added benefit of a few 4 day weekends. As PPs mentioned, Mondays seem to be the busiest/most motivated days in my office. Those would be hard to miss. |
| When I worked a 4 day week, I chose Monday as my off day. The result was that I did not get paid for the federal holidays that are almost always Monday. |
| I used to take off Thursdays. I basically got my week done between Monday and Wednesday, then came back Friday to tie up loose ends and answer any questions and then was off again. If Friday was a holiday for some reason, I got 4 days. I liked it. |
| I'd choose hump day. |
|
I used to work 4 days a week and started off on Fridays and switched to Mondays. Two reasons:
1. Fridays are too busy and I missed too much. 2. I got all of my weekly prep done on Monday, which is a great way to start the work week! |
| Thursdays. By the fourth day of the week, I'm beat. |
| I am home Thursdays and it's great. I focus on work for three days, then get a break. Fridays I can wrap up loose ends and not have emails pile up. |
