On Wednesday, June 4, the Facilities Planning Advisory Council (FPAC) will recommend a pilot to discontinue AAP Centers and replace them with Local Level IV Centers, starting with Greenbriar West ES and Rachel Carson MS.
Information on the proposal is part of FPAC's annual report, to be presented to the School Board on Wednesday, June 4. http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=9KBM4W531F9D |

what the hell is this? When this is approved, If base school is Franklin MS, then AAP center won't be Carson MS, Right?
I don't like it. |
| Why? There are plenty of kids that can fill an AAP program at Franklin. They're considering the same thing at Cooper. |
| Get used to it. This is going to become the norm as these center middle schools get ever bigger. It's long overdue. |
| The FPAC people are a bunch of morons and don't speak for most parents. Their recommendations are totally idiotic. |
| I think it's the beginning of the end of centers. There are several board members who don't like them. I could see them saying LLIV is the same and costs less. |
|
GBW is totally overcrowded - all of 4th grade and possibly more are in trailers. Kids sometimes don't get recess because of the numbers that need to go to specials. There is no chorus for 5th grade. Lunch can be as early as 1030am.
Colin Powell has local level IV and some great teachers yet most of the level IV's (> one class worth) go down the street to GBW and the county pays for them to be bussed. When the LLIV school is a good one and has a lot of kids qualifying, going to the Ctr down the street should really not be a choice. Unfortunately, base school does not do much to keep the level IV's either. |
I think it makes sense to start new centers when others are overcrowded. Not necessarily everywhere. |
| These aren't FCPS proposals, just recommendations of an advisory committee of various residents who often have their own agenda. |
| Oh boy... Will this have any impact in real estate price? |
Yes! They're plummeting at this very moment! Run and get your house on the market while you can!!!!
|
that's funny...... |
It the same thing and does cost less. It's a sensible solution that's been a long time coming. |
Oh. You mean because you don't agree with them? Plenty of parents feel they do speak for them. Personally, I feel their recommendations are right on the money. Literally. |
In some schools where there is critical mass, it is similar. In other schools where is not critical mass, it is not. |
