| Does anyone have tonsil stones? I have huge tonsils with lots of holes from having mono as a teenager. I get tonsil stones constantly. I'm always pushing them out with my fingers or a Q-tip, but they come back as quickly as I can prod them out. I tried a waterpik, but it was painful and made my tonsils bleed. Is there a better way to get rid of these things?!?! Doctor told me they only remove tonsils on people under 20. I feel like I'm going crazy and I'm paranoid that my breathe stinks. |
| I have them too and do all the same things. I'd love to know any other deals for getting rid of them. |
|
I have them as well. No good tricks other than what you are doing.
I would get a second opinion on getting your tonsil's removed. My dr is talking about removing mine and I'll be 40 this year. |
| Do they resurface tonsils? Right now mine are swollen and painful from getting a tonsil stone out last night. It's seriously disgusting... |
Oh wow that's awesome! Was this a GP or a specialized doctor? I looked into tonsil removal several times. I don't have much sick leave to take off a few weeks either for it. |
A few weeks!? No way. A couple of days at most to remove tonsils. |
You are 100% incorrect. Recovery for adult tonsil removal is AT LEAST two full weeks, and for many people three. It's excruciating. Totally worth it if you have recurrent tonsillitis, sleep apnea, or something else along with tonsil stones, but I dont' think it's worth it for just tonsil stones, no matter how yucky. An Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist can do the tonsillectomy. See any ENT to see if your tonsils are bad enough to make it worth it, but they will echo the message that you will absolutely be out of work for at least two weeks. |
OP here, so there's nothing else that can be done? I'm going to forever have swollen tonsils with stones in them?
|
| I used to have them and then got my tonsils removed at 21/22. Go see an ENT if your doctor won't do what you want. It is your health after all |
| PP here. When i had mine removed in my early 20s I slept for about a week after, and was groggy for another week. My breathe smelled like death though (from the cauterization I think) so a coiple of weeks off is probably ideal. Perhaps schedule it around a three day weekend or in between thanksgiving and christmas? |
| Gargle with hydrogen peroxide? Don't swallow, only gargle. You'll have whiter teeth, too! |
What are you smoking? Tonsil removal for adults is extremely high risk and dangerous. The recovery is a FULL two weeks at best. For a doctor to remove tonsils over tonsil stones is negligent and irresponsible. I would RUN from any ENT that suggested tonsil removal for tonsil stones. Plus with the notorious rate of horrendous antibiotic resistant staph infections from surgery, that alone is enough to give someone pause before going under the knife. |
| Do you eat dairy? I stopped drinking milk and they got much better. |
| I wish they would get rid of tonsils during childhood |
The problem is that it trended for a long time that is was "bad" to remove tonsils. Luckily the pendulum has swung back to where docs are taking a more aggressive approach with kids. It is those of us in our 30s & 40s with the rotten tonsils. My daughter got hers out, they are nasty little things. Her health problems completely cleared up. MUCH better to do it when they are little vs an adult. If your kids have nasty tonsils, take them out, don't save it for them to make that dangerous decision in adulthood. The surgery is so much less risky for kids. Much less blood supply to the tonsils when they are young, plus you heal so incredibly fast as a child., |
