Can someone point me in the right direction to get on a palo track? Should I start with Whole 30? That just seems so restrictive.
I have 10 vanity pounds to lose and DAMMIT I want to lose them!!! My normal tricks are not working, I need something structured. Not interested in hearing from the anti-paleo crowd. I'm set and this is the what I'm going to try. |

This totally worked for me, OP! You don't have to do it forever, just do it for 3 months. By end of summer you'll have met your goal!
I don't have some website. I just bought a bunch of ready to eat carrots, yogurt, cottage cheese, deli ham, apples and other fruits. The trick is having things ready to eat. The problem with breads etc (besides all the other reasons) is that they are ready-to-eat, so wash your grapes in advance, etc--so when you go in that fridge, you can grab something. Also, I made one shelf on the fridge my shelf, about eye level, stocked with the above foods. It's hard; you have to train your family to not eat what's there. But it's doable. And when you are hungry, you open the fridge and only look at your shelf. |
| ^^forgot to say, it has been the ONLY thing that has worked for me. I tried a lot of things--only healthy things, no starving etc--but lots of things, like exercising like crazy, etc, but this was what finally did it for me. |

I love All Against Grain. And Nom Nom Paleo for recipes.
We started with the Whole 30 and t was a great way to jump in and figure things out. Fwiw - I lost 9 pounds in the 30 days. I still actively avoid sugar and have a minimal wheat intake (usually just when I am eating at someone else's house). I did not impose the Whole 30 on the kids. |

I really like Nom Nom paleo website. The recipes aren't that complicated and there are good pictures. She also has an app that looks excellent - I don't have it but have been eyeing it - it's 5 dollars. It's basically many of the recipes from the site but in step by step format (it' for the ipad only). She also has a book.
I also like Everyday Paleo website. She also has a book. I've look at the recipes but haven't tried anything yet. I have a friend who has done Whole 30 with great results (not sure how her maintenance is going). |

OP here. Thanks for the start!
To the poster who gets cottage cheese, I thought dairy was out when it comes to paleo? |
Not sure about pure paleo, but it is definitely out for the whole 30 (not pp you directed the question to). As it non grass fed meats. |
| Definitely start with the whole 30. Go shopping before you start! |

For ongoing inspiration, Mark's Daily Apple. It's primal, not paleo, but it's an amazingly supportive community.
For recipes, definitely theclothesmakethegirl - her two cookbooks, Well Fed and Well Fed II are the best paleo cookbooks out there. 99% of the recipes are Whole 30-compliant, and they're not crazy long with 1,000 ingredients. Best of all, there are groups of "recipes" that are super easy to make - like, what meat goes well with what spice and what vegetables to achieve a certain type of taste, and they're all basically really easy stir-fries. |

Primal is less restrictive than whole 30. I like the Mark Sisson primal blueprint for a jump starter.
In terms of websites, Mark's Daily Apple is helpful. |
| Marks daily apple and the clothes make the girl. I go off paleo, I get fat. Back on, I drop weight. |
What's the difference between primal and pale? |
|
This is what you eat when you go Paleo:
meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts, healthy fats (coconut and olive oils, avocadoes) Primal eaters also enjoy some types of dairy, wines, and stuff like dark chocolate. Both types of eaters don't eat artificial sweeteners, grains, legumes, industrial seed oils - basically, anything that is toxic when raw, made in a laboratory, or has unpronounceable ingredients. |
| 18:12 here clarifying: Primal eaters eat all the stuff Paleo eaters eat, plus that additional stuff. |
| OP here. After doing some research, I think primal is more suited for me. Paleo is a bit much. I'd like to keep my yogurt (i eat plain anyways), quinoa, and sweet potatoes! |
