Nom Nom Paleo.

Her cauliflower rice is now a staple in our house. Great substitute for rice, and easy to change up with other ingredients/variations: http://nomnompaleo.com/post/1626071845/another-simpler-version-of-cauliflower-rice

OP if you are going primal (I just learned the difference from this thread, thanks folks) buy YAMS not sweet potatoes. They are different and yams are better for you. Whole Foods has both, but they have organic yams year-round.

Not OP, but thanks, very helpful.

Mark's Daily Apple is a very good site for the paleo and paleo-inclined. I'm neither, though I see a good case of most of that diet, and I still read his site sometimes because I find him thorough, intelligent, interesting and pretty cutting-edge.

OP, you and the other PPs have totally inspired me! Thank you!
I'm doing this! As soon as I get back from my first trip to Europe in 20 years I'm on board! I'm going to try the Whole 30, then after that I'll incorporate dairy.

(And once I get good at it, I'll bet I can keep it up even when traveling. But not too worried if I only get to really travel every 20 years, LOL)

OP here. I have exhausted my research on both paleo and primal. You can eat minimal amounts of dark chocolate, dairy, alcohol on primal. None of the above on paleo.

It seems that a lot of people say they are paleo, but seem to really be following primal.

However, under the covers, all of it really a zero carb diet, except through veggies and fruits.

Can someone please explain to me why legumes are inconsistent with the paleo diet? I would think that they'd be favored as plant-based proteins?

They are a very starchy source of protein. That's the main reason they're a no no.

And there's something else specific to legumes - supposely have "anti nutrients"? Sounded really far fetched to me and beans are still on our family menu once a week. But you may find the argument more compelling than I did.

OP here. I'm here to report on day #3.

1. I have a huge headache, probably due to a lack of sugar.
2. As of this morning I have lost 2lbs. Clearly that is bloating going down, probably from much lower amounts of salt and a few huge dumps
3. My DH is on board, which is shocking
4. It is bizarre, but I'm not that hungry today. Could be hormonal, could be the impact of lack of sugar in my body.
5. The lack of cheese is by far the hardest part for me.
6. I'm trying VERY hard to NOT consume a ton of meat. I'm still uncomfortable with a "meat based diet" so I'm trying to eat more veggies than meat.

Thanks for the update OP. I would live to see how this goes for you.

Thanks OP! Good luck as you go through your carbo-flu. That is the toughest part (and the cravings).

OP here. I followed primal eating for the last 5 days. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I stepped on the scale just now and have lost 4lbs. Mind you I am not overweight. I have never lost weight this fast. I'm not hungry because i eat any amount i want within primal foods.

The strangest thing is I'm simply not that hungry. Is it because I'm not eating sugar? Does sugar send your appetite soaring? It is like I eat and don't crave more food 30min later (like usual).

I'm simply stunned by how simple this is. I cannot believe what my stomach looks like. I wish I had done before and after pics. I did not think the weight loss would be so rapid and especially did jot realize the impact it would have on my belly.

Congrats OP. You're motivating me!! I did a super-low carb diet and lost about 15 lbs, but slipped and gained a lot back. I think primal is more sustainable for me--I missed fruit. Keep posting!
