So along the same lines as the suit for an interview question, do you all think that pantyhose are required for women wearing a dress/skirt suit for an interview. Assume interview is for a midlevel government or nonprofit position, not a lawyer or banking.
I'll post my opinion later... |
| I don't know that It's necessarily "required", but I don't think you go wrong by wearing hose with a skirt suit. If I were one of those women who hates hose, I'd wear a pant suit. I may be in a minority at my age (36), but I like the way my body looks in hose and I think it makes me more confident and put together. |
| Not required. I am in my 20s. Most people my age do not wear them. |
| Not required. If anyone wears them anymore, they should choose as sheer as possible. |
|
Required for a skirt. Absolutely. I know many, many hiring committee members who would pass on someone with bare legs in a professional interview.
This is why I wear pant suits. They are slightly less formal, but I hate hose so much. BTW, I am 31, lest someone suggest this is changing among younger women. I wish it would. |
| Why would you jeopardize getting a position by NOT wearing them? |
| I never ever wear hose. Ever. I got my current job without wearing them and as I'm interviewing for a new one, it hasn't made a difference in me getting another interview. I do a lot of conference presentations as well. Almost always wear a dress. Pantyhose is frumpy and unnecessary and needs to just go away. |
| 19:59 here -- adding, I am 29. |
+1 our office managing partner would absolutely pass on you if you didn't have hose on. Others woukdnt bat an eye. Point is, why would you risk it? Just wear super sheer hose. |
| It's absolutely disheartening to see young women forgo hose -- bare legs are really distasteful, interview or day-to-day. We really need to turn the tide back to wearing them. They're sexy, too. |
| Sounds like they have a case for not hiring any of the women they interviewed by making hose this arbitrary screening tool. |
I'm guessing you're a man whose never had a yeast infection or a UTI. |
Women don't go to work so you have sexy legs to look at. |
|
no panty hose! it's not the 80s. I can't believe people still wear them. You should not wear a short skirt of course, but something conservative. Unless you have a rash on your leg or something then don't wear panty hose. They are nasty.
I got job offers at top banking firms in nyc (very conservative) and never wore panty hose to an interview. Now when it was cold I would wear black or grey tights, but not slimy, nasty panty hose. |
Nordstrom sells several brands of nice panty hose in a range of colors for women with different skin tone. They're flattering, sturdy, and don't run easily. They make me feel fully dressed instead of half-naked. Maybe in the middle of summer, with a khaki skirt suit that's not very formal, I'll go bare legged. Otherwise, yes, I'll wear panty hose. |
