Sadly, back pain is often not approved by surgery. Some people suffer without relief, even after trying multiple surgical nonsurgical routes.

I don't disagree with your indictment of insurance companies, but the belief that back pain can be best solved with surgery is actually mostly a boon to unscrupulous doctors. 20-40% of back surgeries fail, and if you are in that group, you will wind up with MORE issues than you had before surgery. Talk to a well respected ortho about this -- the good ones are very reluctant to cut because they know the outcomes. A lot of people wind up in back pain and they struggle with the non-invasive options because they require the patient to do a lot -- go to PT and exercise religiously, often they need to lose weight as well. There are some pharmaceuticals that can help (anti-inflammatories are particularly useful especially when used in tandem with PT). Chiropractic adjustments when done by a responsible practitioner (a lot of PTs can do it) can help a lot. When people don't like the effort level involved in all that, they want surgery and a magic fix. There isn't one.

Insurance companies can be terrible (UHC certainly is) but an insurer declining to pay for a pay surgery that is not medically necessary is doing you a favor. A lot of patients don't want to hear it though.

We had multiple PhD psychologists ask how we got a 39 yo “brilliant” person in to do a 4 hour neuropsychology test. He was Dx ASD I and Bipolar II, plus the usual anxiety and depression associated with it.
He never accepted his list of patterns of symptoms nor Dx. He said he took the test “to show us he was fine.” He also now demands to “take the test again since the first one was incorrect.”

Well the fact so much of the population is obese, can’t afford to have kids until their fertility is declining, and need psych meds to function, evidences some societal failures that we aren’t going to “personal responsibility” our way out of. And unsurprisingly the hormone disrupters in the products we use, unhealthy changes to our food supply, and lack of family supports (e.g. paid parental leave) are brought to us courtesy of companies trying to increase their shareholder value.

Also, your post complete ignores the fact that anyone can become disabled or have an expensive accident that causes significant medical bills. Someone is going to have a baby in the NICU. Someone is going to have a bad fall. Someone is going to get cancer despite a healthy diet and working out. Someone is going to need medication to manage their health conditions. Insurance companies are supposed to be there for this when this happens after paying all our premiums.

We could absolutely have better coverage if we spent money on patients instead of allowing year over year record profits.

This is why I think his family did notify authorities that they suspected it was him, but a PP said the authorities specifically said they didn't.

Murder doesn’t always = mental illness but in this case the facts are highly suggestive of mental illness. Everyone that knew him (friends, colleagues, teachers, classmates) have said his actions and beliefs are completely opposite of the young man they knew. He did not have the personality or history of a person that would withdraw from family, friends, and society. Those are clear signs of mental illness, particularly schizophrenia and depression. When you add in the medical issues and pain, it’s another huge contributor of a mental break. I have seen this pattern in two different family members that suffered from schizophrenia. One withdrew from family and friends (no one knew their whereabouts for months) and then committed a violent crime (the voices instructed the person to do it). The other suffered pain and medical problems for years that spiraled into untreated depression and then psychosis. Neither recognized their illness and would say there was nothing wrong with them. That is a symptom of the illness.

When you're indoctrinated you isolate and withdraw from others, especially those with your former views.

When you're planning a murderous political statement you also isolate and withdraw from others. Must focus. No distractions. No turning back.

Some guy he lived with in Hawaii claims in an interview that Luigi said his back pain was so bad that he was scared to "be intimate" with someone. He did not claim to have ED. That is assuming that Luigi actually said this, and also assuming that Luigi was being truthful. He may have been just making it up, exaggerating, embellishing, etc. He's insane. In that same interview the guy claimed they went to yoga and went surfing together so I am having a hard time believing Luigi can do those activities but not get laid?
