Am I the only white girl on here who listens to rap? Weigh in.

I'm white, 39, born and raised here, and I listen to rap, R&B, slowww jams. . I often feel alone, like the people at work or in my neighborhood don't know me, or like we wouldnt have much in common. I know it might sound silly to some of you, but it's true. Am I as alone as I feel? I guess there's a little more to it than just feeling alone about my musical preferences. I feel very alone in my life experiences. I laughed at myself tonite blaring DMX's "What's My Name" and then turning it down when the popo pulled up next to me (I live in NoVA now, which I think exacerbates my loneliness.

Can you relate to the Biebs? Think he understands the feelings of loneliness.

DMX? The "popo"?

Girl, you are stuck in the past. Hip-hop has changed a lot since you were young.

Have you heard the new Big Krit song Mt. Olympus?

Old DC slang for nerd.

Why is it that when white people use urban slang, they're always at least 10 years late?

Late? I'm 39. Been saying it all my life. And he is a bamma with his scrawney ass with no shirt on, no muscles, hat backwards or to the side omg. . He just is.

Don't like it. I do listen to a lot of older school stuff, like 90s/2000s. I feel like rap is nothing like it used to be, and I generally can't stand anything dirty southish.

No. It is misogynistic crap. Seriously though you have somw real issues if you allow our taste in music to play such a role in your identity that it causes you to feel lonely and isolated.

True dat. But why? Aren't a lot of successful rappers raised by single moms who brought home the bacon and made sure they grew up self sufficient?

I'm a nice, white Jewish lawyer, 37 years old, who not only likes a lot of the rap and hip-hop I grew up on, but I teach it to my daughters.

They have been known to go skipping down the sidewalk holdings hands, pigtails flapping in the wind, singing "I Got a Man" and "Baby Got Back" and "Push It" and "'Round the Way Girl."

That's so cute (OP). I envision my daughter the same in a few years. I'm not Jewish, but was in a Jewish sorority and my sisters all like rap too. I feel like that was the 90s thing - eurodance and rap.

Are you 19? Who chooses friends based on musical taste once they're out of college?

It's more than just music, like I mentioned in passing in my post. I feel like my life experience is very different from everyone I meet. It's hard to elaborate.
