Anyone have Geico car insurance? This seems too good to be true...less than 1/2 price of Nationwide

Anonymous
We are currently with Nationwide, and have auto, home and life insurance through them. We have 3 vehicles and pay just under $3,000/6 months for the auto insurance.

We are really needing to cut our expenses, so I did the Geico online quote, and for the same coverages, the quote I got from them is $1,300/6 months.

This really seems too good to be true.

Has anyone else done their online quote, but when you got the insurance, they increased it or something (like a bait and switch)?

I don't get how it could be so much lower.

I had Geico for a long time and switched to Progressive because Progressive was cheaper.

I switched to Geico and unfortunately did not get glass coverage (failed to check before I got the policy), so I would check that, as it is generally standard.

Also, nationwide might hike the rates on your other policies if you get rid of their auto (ie, remove the "bundle" discount).

we've had Geico for 10 years and it's been great. we had 2 accidents, neither our fault and it was pretty easy dealing with them.
they seem very legit. didn't have good luck with them and a homeowners quote. auto is good though.

I don't patronize GEICO. First, they are well known for cancelling/non-renewing if you have claims that are remotely your fault. Second, they hand out radar guns to police for free so that they can rack up speeding tickets and then surcharge or cancel your policy.

And no, I don't care to hear from sanctimonious self-righteous crowd about how if you don't speed this doesn't matter ...

I dealt with them when one of their insureds hit my wife's car and was cited as at fault. I would give them a "B-" from that perspective, they were reasonable but just on the verge of causing me to have to sue their insured personally to recover what GEICO would not cover.

Been with Geico for 15 years, and they have been fine. I had an accident, and it was handled without problem. My auto insurance covered glass claims without me having to specify it. I had a crack in my windshield, and my friend informed my of the ability to get it fixed free through my Geico insurance.

If I wanted to bundle all my insurance with one company (Auto, Home and Term Life), can any of you recommend a company?

$6,000 a year sounds really high. Of course, you haven't told us the value of your cars or house or your driving record and claims history.

10:47 here. I was at fault for my accident, and my rates didn't go up.

No accidents or tickets.
2013 prius
2010 honda fit
2006 Ford F350
Home was last appraised for $480K

At Nationwide, we get the following auto insurance discounts:

passive restraint, multi car, farm bureau member, 5 year accident free, home & car, new vehicle

Does $6,000/year definitely seem high? I've been with Nationwide for ages, and have never really shopped around

We have Geico auto and bought our home insurance through them too (the policy is actually Travelers, but you can buy it through Geico).

I have a relative who worked at Geico HQ for several years. They take pride in their reputation as the low cost insurance company. As a market leader in many parts of the country, other insurance companies that are less profitable are looking to them as an example. My relative works for a different insurance company now, but I still think Geico is a solid company.

I had Amica for many years but my wife got a speeding ticket last year and they increased our rate from $1,400 to $1,800 a year. I switched to Geico in Jan. and pay $527 bi-annually for the same coverage.
