Anyone have Geico car insurance? This seems too good to be true...less than 1/2 price of Nationwide

No accidents or tickets.
2013 prius
2010 honda fit
2006 Ford F350
Home was last appraised for $480K

At Nationwide, we get the following auto insurance discounts:

passive restraint, multi car, farm bureau member, 5 year accident free, home & car, new vehicle

Does $6,000/year definitely seem high? I've been with Nationwide for ages, and have never really shopped around

IME you have to switch every few years because the rates creep up (at least for home and auto).

That's crazy high. I have Geico with 4 cars - 2 of which are luxury cars, 1 teen boy driver and 1 college student and it's about $2000 for 6 months. 1/2 of that is the teen boy premium. We've had no problems with Geico although one kid had a fender bender that we paid for off insurance to avoid it having an impact on our insurance rates.

That seems excessively high. How much do you pay for your homeowner's insurance?

My homeowner's insurance premium before discounts is $3,078, and after discounts (protective device, new home, claim free, long term, Farm Bureau Member), it is $1,500.

Coverage amount is $480,000 for dwelling. Does that seem high too, or about right?

I have a relative who worked at Geico HQ for several years. They take pride in their reputation as the low cost insurance company. As a market leader in many parts of the country, other insurance companies that are less profitable are looking to them as an example. My relative works for a different insurance company now, but I still think Geico is a solid company.

Travelers Insurance is horrible. We had a home burglary and Travelers doubled I insuarnce. The loss was cheaper than insurance hike. We promptly switched to Liberty.

Home insurance is too high too.

When you did have Geico/Travelers for home insurance, did you get a discount for also having car insurance with them, and if so, about how much?

We have Amica right now for everything. They are OK for home and auto, but I'm shopping around for a new term life policy.

Yes, that's high. You should be covered for the replacement cost, not the appraised cost. Most of your house's appraised value is in the land.

i've had GEICO since 2002 and never had any problem with them. i've had 3 people rear end me and i've caused 2 accidents in the last 12 yrs. DH and I have high deductibles as we drive older cars that are fully paid off. We pay about $800/yr. Part of the reason why it's so low is that I metro to work instead of drive in. Also, I did get a few speeding tickets (not on the highway, but all in the neighborhood where I live. arlington is huge on speed traps. I did not notice anything effecting my rates). One good thing that i want to mention is the towing service. must cheaper than AAA. For $1/mo. you can call a flat bed towing truck. I've had my car towed about 4 or 5 times over the years due to flat tires or faulty alternators.

That sounds great! AAA has gotten so expensive!

OP, we noticedvit too. When we bought a new house, we switched from NationW to Geico... bundled car & home. And noticed almost 50% savings on the two cars.

OP here, okay, so homeowner's insurance through Geico(underwritten by Liberty Mutual) would be $1701/year (as opposed to $1500/year with Nationwide), but the savings on the auto policy definitely still makes it worth while. .

Does anyone know if you get an additional discount through Geico if you also get life insurance through them?

I have had Geico for at least 20 years and have been happy with them, but haven't had any claims since my car was broken into about 10 years ago. Also no claims for Travelers, although I have heard it is stingy.

At one point, Geico's rates varied by the zip code you live in. Not sure if that's still true.

Anyone insured a teen with Geico?

Not a fan of the gekko or pig commercials, though.
