With Americas's manufacturing renaissance those who do not want or need to go on to a four year college have opportunities to earn a middle class income with the right training and education. We need to do more to develop the education pipeline for middle skill jobs.

My ds also has a former lawyer as a middle school history teacher. UVA undergrad to Harvard Law, and absolutely hated being a lawyer. |

Here is the breakdown of my siblings (4/5 have at least a 4 year degree)
1.) Teacher with masters = 80k 2.) CPA (works 30 hours)= 100k 3.) Nurse then became CRNA = 220k 4.) Pharmacist= 110k 5.) Electrician = 400k My youngest brother is the electrician and he actually started to acquire the skill when he got kicked out of high school and had to go to an alternative school. He then had an apprenticeship and started working for a small business. He then went out and spent most of his 20s working for a huge corporation doing building maintenance before opening his own business at the age of 32. He is 44 now and has 110 employees. Trades are good OP. College is not the cookie cutter answer to all. |

Another lawyer here. If I ever switched careers, education is where I would go, too. I think a lot of lawyers enjoy academics and the transition for many makes sense. |

My plumber who works for a major company and does "side" work told me last week that he is now ready to break off and start his own 'one man' enterprise. Amassing tons of side work and referrals, he's ready. And I KNOW he makes far more than I do with my fancy-schmancy degree. My mechanic has a shop in D.C. that is always packed. If you don't get there by 7:30a to get in line, you can forget it unless you made an appointment in advance. I know my plumber and mechanic get the last laugh when they're looked down on because they don't have the fancy degree. |

It's nice to have the fancy-schmancy degree and to have learned for education's sake.
Not financially possible for all, but a worthy goal regardless of eventual occupation. |

Oh, please. Of course, I know there's nothing wrong with my fancy-schmancy degree otherwise I wouldn't have put in the time nor would anyone else. Don't start an argument where there is none. |
