Whom are you trying to impress with the "whom"? It's "Who do you think was . . .

Their generals were as misguided as your grammar.

Of that band of traitors? Does it matter?

Bunch of traitorous, racist misfits. Even Lee wasn't any good. Good generals WIN wars.

I squatted and had a good pee on the Stonewall Jackson shrine. I piss on his grave.

Stonewall Jackson and Lee were two of the best generals in history. Their movements were precursors to German brilliance in WW2.

The South was consistently outnumbered and outgunned but managed to win many battles due to superior leadership.

James Longstreet certainly got a lot of good PR in the movie Gettysburg. If a movie is ever made about my life, I want a bearded Tom Beringer to play me.

Sadam Hussein

Forrest was a great general, though a bit 21st century brutal for the mild mannered rules of war in the 19th century. JEB was mostly very effective as well. Cleburne. South had great generals up and down the roster. Most of West Point was made up of Southerners, and that had a lot to do with it.

Okay, OP, are you a student working on a history paper? If not, then I can't help but ask - why do you care? Look, I think about a lot of things that folks may find odd, but this one has never crossed my mind. I read a fair amount about the civil war as a child and had a prolonged fascination with Lincoln. Then I got a little older, grew a little wiser, and morphed the fascination into Douglass, Truth, Tubman and the unknown many who made the ultimate sacrifice to move our nation towards a more perfect union (as did Lincoln, just that he was not a solo actor).
