Stokes Lottery

Is anyone going to the Stokes lottery on Thursday evening at 6:15? I think I heard it will be done electronically, so it should be done fairly quickly. Also, any current families know how many non-sibling PK3 and PK4 spots there will be and when we can expect the results to be posted?

Yes, we are waiting on the results but I am not holding my breath. Do you know how we'll be notified and when?

A word of warning to take the early lottery results (especially the pre-K, which are mixed 3s and 4s at Stokes) with a huge grain of salt. We had a really good pre-K WL number last year but so many younger siblings were pulled in when older kids were admitted that we actually ended up being pushed further and further down the list as the spring and summer progressed (and, of course, never got in.) I heard that they may be adding another pre-K class but haven't confirmed that so that would definitely help!

We didn't apply to stokes, but I know the person with number 7 or 8 and she didn't get in last year.

They said that they have more spots this year than they have had in the past several years because the DCI move is letting them have a larger entering Pk3 and Pk4 class. I am still certain that I won't get in, given my lottery luck. Signed, 400+ on MV PK3 waitlist.

Results will be posted on Friday, I believe.

I was just about to say... the funny thing I've noticed about Stokes in the 2 yrs I was paying attention is that, unlike several of the other schools, their K waitlist actually seemed to move more than the PS/PK waitlists. Can any current Stokes parents or Stokes folks in the know confirm that?

No idea how many K slots though; I doubt the school has released that yet if the lottery is Thursday.

They are adding additinal PK classes this year (1 Spanish and 1 French.) SY2014/2015 is the year to get into Stokes PK class (this lottery).

K will be hard to get in for SY2015/2016 as they will have pretty much a full class since more Pker will be moving up to K in SY15/16, that is if all or most of these kids stay for K In previos years it was easier to get into K because there was only 1 Spanish and 1 French PK and only half of each class moved up to K. This left about half of the K class for new kids (sibling and others to fill in the gap.)

Do you think it's okay to bring a three year old to the lottery? Do they make it an event, or is it just like: here are the lucky few names on a screen; otherwise, tant pis pour vous?

No, theIt is not an event.
There will probably be a lot of people at the lottery and the multipurpose room is extremely small.

Do you get to choose if you want Spanish or French or do they choose it for you?
