Plantation shutters

Does anyone have a suggestion on a good place to buy plantation shutters in the Nova area? I probably need vinyl or faux wood since they will be in bathrooms. I'll need to have them installed. I did talk to Next Day Blinds but was a little turned off by their attitude and wondered if I could do better. I'm probably being unfair to them but it seemed like they wanted to know the status of our 401 (K)s in addition to wanting a 50% non-refundable deposit before they would send someone out to measure. Maybe they have been burned by people turning around and ordering online.

Also, when I didn't need them I remember seeing lots of sale ads and coupons, but I can't find them now and can't wait. I'm afraid I may be soon presenting the neighbors with a rather unlovely view.

If anyone can weigh in on Next Day Blinds or suggest an alternative I'd be very grateful. We're at the end of a remodeling project and I'm kind of numb.

We had NDB plantation shutters in our old house. They broke frequently. NDB was always responsive about sending someone out to fix them, but it was still a pain. We used Perfect Fit Shutters, http://www.perfectfitshutters.com/ in our current home. They did a great job, were reasonably priced and have held up really well. I highly recommend them.

We had Perfect Fit install plantation shutters in our house. We were referred to them, and had in turn referred someone else to them. We were very disappointed in our customer service experience after installation. Sadly, I believe we were actually dealing with the owner. I would not recommend Perfect Fit based on our experience.

Call Dan Kugler's design center. They had much much better prices than NDB on wood blinds so I'm sure the shutters are also reasonable.

We've used Perfect Fit in two different houses as have family and friends. I would highly recommend them. I think there was a thread a few months ago where several others recommended them as well. FWIW, we've used next day blinds as well and they have been fine.

NDB just installed ours. They put them in the living room and the bathroom. So far so good. They had a QC person come out a few days later to check the manufacturing and installation work.

We had also gotten some custom blinds installed. My husband who is very handy was in the process of moving them around because he wanted them recessed more into the window. For him, it was a 10 min task per window. But in the middle of moving the blinds, he got side tracked by the kids. He finished 2 out of the 3 windows. When the QC person, I told him not to judge the installation of the blinds because DH had been moving them around. He insisted on sending over an installer immediately to finish the one remaining window. And he gave me a SBX gift card.

I had real wood in my bathroom. You have wooden cabinets-why would you think the blinds have to be fake wood?

I used DanKugler's in Rockville. He's very meticulous, and his quality and prices are better than NDB. His service is great too. I got my first round of plantation shutters with him 3 years ago, and they still look brand new.

A helpful salesman at one blind store said that while wood shutters should hold up well in a bathroom for many years the longest "new look" and longevity would come from vinyl or a composite.

Apparently the finish on most shutters is not as moisture impervious as that used on vanities, etc. and the combination of strong sunlight (which we have with that window) and moisture could cause fading and some deterioration over time. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about...

In addition to appearance, I'm looking for longevity and low maintenance as we remodel.

I only use Floyd Messersmith, 301.928.8901, to do all my window treatments including shutters. He brings all the samples to your home.
