Handmaid’s Tale season 4

There is no way Janine is dead. If she had died they would have had it in the episode and June's reaction to it all for the shock value.

I think the writers are keeping their options open!

I think she's alive. You could see other aid workers helping a person in the background at the beginning of this episode. And when people for on this show they usually make it pretty obvious - this seems purposefully ambiguous.

My thought as well.

I think she's alive. Other than the fact that Janine has become a major character in her own right it's also a very useful plot device. We're halfway through this season and there's one more season to go. Gonna be pretty boring if our story is Canada, the Commanders bromance in Gilead, and Aunt Lydia doing her thing - again. I think Janine gets rescued by the Nighthawks and eventually June goes back into Gilead with them to rescue Hannah next season.

Excellent point. They never waste an opportunity for a closeup of June's face.

I just want to say one more time how annoyed I am that this show isn't better. It has the raw material to be a 10/10-- great source material, top-notch cast, and a moment in time that matches the zeitgeist.

And I wonder how much better it would have been if HBO had made it.

It's kind of reminding me of Man in the High Castle. Similar raw material and potential, but the writers just didn't quite deliver on the plot.

Agreed. Oh how the Man in the High Castle disappointed.

They also used a romantic pairing with zero chemistry and the woman was at least 10 years older than the man in real life and she was stiff as a plank. As was he. Two stiff planks. No thanks.

Yes the leads were awful, but a tremendous supporting cast.

Heads up that episode 7 is tough to watch. The trauma is just overwhelming and it’s hard to see a happy, healthy future for June.

I think she'll get there--she's surrounded by a lot of love and support--but yes her trauma is hard to watch. The confrontation with the Waterfords in court will be epic.

That might be a flashback because I think it was followed by one of Alma

That montage of torture and abuse when she was in the supermarket-- It was stunning to see everything she suffered. I had forgotten a lot of it as it all blurred together in my memory, but My God.

When June found out Serena is pregnant and asked who the father was, did anyone else suddenly think that if Fred isn't sterile he could actually be Nicole's father instead of Nick? Do you think June might wonder that?
