Prosecutor to Investigate Origins of FBI Trump-Russia Probe

Well, I think Gates testifying that Trump had advance knowledge of Wikileaks dumps today kind of supercedes any issue having to do with the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation, unless people here want to claim that Wikileaks was a Hillary set up to "get" the Donald?

So, this "defensive briefing" was not really a briefing at all. It was an information gathering effort. Many of us knew this all along.

A newly declassified document obtained by Fox News reveals that the FBI agent who delivered the defensive briefing on election interference to the Trump campaign in August 2016 “actively listened” for certain topics – using it as a “cover” to monitor then-candidate Donald Trump and Michael Flynn, a source familiar with the document said.

The document, obtained by Fox News, was declassified by Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe and transmitted to Capitol Hill.

The document reflects type-written notes by FBI agent Joe Pientka after an August 17, 2016 briefing to then-candidate Donald Trump, Michael Flynn and Chris Christie, "in support of ODNI briefings provided to U.S. Presidential candidates and two of their advisors."

The document was dated August 30, 2016, and filed under “Crossfire Hurricane,” the FBI’s code name for its investigation into whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians to influence the 2016 election; “Crossfire Razor,” the FBI’s code name for the investigation into Michael Flynn; "Russia Sensitive Investigative Matter," and FARA, the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

The document states that FBI officials Kevin Clinesmith and Peter Strzok "approved" Pientka's notes.

The source told Fox News that Pientka, at the time of the briefing, was also tasked with running the FBI's investigation into Flynn.

The source went on to tell Fox News that the briefing was used as “a cover to listen for any remarks” by Trump or others about the Russian federation.

Well, duh. The FBI is investing Russian interference with the Presidential campaign to help Donald Trump and you seriously don't think the FBI agent giving the briefing is NOT going to pay attention to how they respond? Don't you want our federal investigators to find out if Americans are conspiring with a hostile power?

And, this.......

The source told Fox News that it was Pientka’s duty to “warn and tell the candidate what they needed to watch out for,” but that he did not implicitly warn that the “Russians were targeting the campaign.”

Plus, the guy who altered the email - altering evidence used against Carter Page - was in attendance. This "briefing" was a joke from the get-go.

I read your "news" couple of times to understand what you have put here.

JFC. You guys will never stop peddling propaganda to support a traitor you elected. What is wrong in actively listening? 90% of the news you have quoted is misinformation campaign filed as news. This is why you people are not trusted to be good faith debateer.

Here is a more realistic reading and context of the document

Please let us know where he is wrong.

Also, TLDR

FBI: Mr. Pres, there are bad people who want to compromise you.

Trump: Are you sure they're bad? What about the ones I'm working for?

Flynn: You don't have the manpower to defeat our cunning plan!

Christie: *slobbering sycophant noises*

Given what was already known about Trump and Flynn, there is no reason to tell them what they already knew, that they were targets and assets of Russia.

Looks like Durham will also need to look at the Brookings Institute.......

A lawyer for Igor Danchenko, 42, confirmed to The New York Times that his client -- a former Brookings Institution senior research analyst in Washington, D.C., and not a "Russian-based" source -- provided the information to Steele, the British former spy whose dossier was used by the FBI to obtain wiretaps of Carter Page, the former Trump campaign adviser.

“Igor Danchenko has been identified as one of the sources who provided data and analysis [to Steele],” Mark E. Schamel told the paper.

The FBI knew who Danchenko was and interviewed him in 2017 about the information he provided for the Steele dossier that purported to show Trump campaign ties to the Russian government. Danchenko cooperated on the condition the FBI keep his identity secret so he could protect himself, the paper reported.

Danchenko's identity further raises questions about the FBI renewing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant against Page. In the last two renewal applications to the FISA court, the FBI referred to the primary sub-source of the document as "truthful and cooperative" and "Russian-based," the Justice Department Inspector General report found.

In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee accused the head of the Brookings Institution, Strobe Talbott, of being directly involved in the anti-Trump dossier and stated he is examining “the three ‘D’s” of the dossier: its development, dissemination, and defense. “They [the Brookings Institution] were involved for sure in the dissemination and for sure in the defense of the dossier. We just don’t know yet were they also involved in the development,” Nunes said, adding it would be a “major” part of the story.

Of course, let's just root out all of the moderate and left leaning institutions in our country as Trump pushes the United States to full on fascism.

Nothing to see here, just elected GOP officials outing FBI sources who now must fear for their lives.

You mean the guy who helped Steele write the fake dossier? Great FBI source.

The dossier was a compilation of unverified raw material. It was never intended to be made public and was solely provided with the intention of further research. Some of it has panned out as true, some of it is still unverified. This was all made clear when it became public, or are you simply omitting that for personal/political expediency?

You haven't been following this carefully, have you? FBI agents knew Steele was not reliable. The "raw material" was pretty much fake. Steele planted the stories with the media and then FBI used that as verification--when it all came from same source: Steele.

Quit peddling falsehoods.

Don't blame pp for not following carefully.
Blame her for her choice in media she consumes.
Much of the MSM dropped this scandal like a metal rod in the summer sun once we started finding out more about the slimy dossier, the Russian hoax and the Mueller investigation that should have never been.
Once indictments start being made public, the question is - will they follow the story then????

The dossier was just a piece of the puzzle. Just part of the information gathered. The RWNJ obsession with it is tedious:
