I don’t see what is wrong in putting a child in after care as both parents don’t get home till 6. And in the after care if they offer chess or LEGO why not let the kid enjoy what he likes the most. And why not send him to weekend practice as the parents cannot play to his level and he wants more practice
This forum has given me options and directions and it really helped. Thanks to all |
Eh. Look at the maps showin who voted for Trump. I don’t doubt for one second that the population on a whole in major metropolitan areas IS indeed THAT much smarter. It costs more to live in those places. That means successful parents. That means lots of smart parents. That means lots of kids with the genetic make up to be very smart. I recognize some people prep. Many on this board have admitted doing so though many of those deny that what they did is prepping. But I still think this area is smarter than some podunk town in the middle of the country. |
| ^Twice as many gifted kids would be plausible. Five times as many is ludicrous. Flyover country still has medical doctors and other skilled professionals. Major cities still have retail workers, janitors, and plenty of other non college requiring professions. |
I was in a GT program as a child. DH was in a GT program as a child. With no prepping, DC is in AAP. The same is true for many but not all of our friends. Why the surprise? |
| Being in GT or AAP doesn't mean much. Most programs, including AAP, accept many kids who are not in the top 2%. Having 10% of your student body score in the top 2% is absurd. The cogat and nnat are easily prepped. There are many schools offering prep classes, and many other prep resources available. It's naive to imagine that a lot of people aren't prepping, and that we are that much more special than anywhere else. Most of the kids in AAP are bright, but nothing more. |
I think you are the same poster with anti trump ideas. I'm not sharing my ideas here, as this is not a political board. Please keep politics out of AAP. We're trying to figure out how to help our children, not your political agenda. |
| Or to put it a different way, everyone seems to think that they and their children have an IQ over 130. Most of those people would be in for a rude awakening if they actually had their IQ tested. The average IQ for many professions like doctors, lawyers, or engineers isn't nearly as high as you might imagine. |
If you count up all the posters on this forum in the past few months, it's probably much fewer than 100 different people. Do you really think that there aren't 100 children in FCPS with IQ over 130? |
What the hell are you talking about? Clearly, reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. |
Well, don't leave us in suspense... |
DP. This is what PP is referring to, I assume. https://www.electronicproducts.com/News/Engineer_vs_engineer_Who_has_the_higher_IQ.aspx |
NP here, I read a lot of the beginning and middle but not the part that deviates to this tangent. |
From the article: What does this tell us? Nothing really. IQ tests are fast becoming yesterday’s standard, as the modern-day community has made the move to placing greater emphasis on skills, abilities, and professional training, rather than categorize an individual’s professional value based on how he / she scores on a test. With this being the case, IQ results are more so now used in instances like this – a fun comparison, but nothing that should be taken too seriously. ? |
I'm the first PP, and I absolutely agree with you. The only reason I brought it up in the first place is to rebut the notion that this area is so much smarter and more special than everywhere else in the country. All of this sequed from a different tangent on asians, prepping, and how common prepping is in FCPS. |
