I agree that the US will most likely not use military force to gain Greenland. Because if they do, they will doom the US for generations in embarrassment, resentment and distrust - the whole world will never trust us again as allies, will hate us and will think we are psychotic nutjobs.

Our current President has NO right to take a territory from another sovereign country that happens to be an allies with us, moreover, one that has allowed us privileges to militarily take up a position on that territory. NO RIGHTS whatsoever.

The US will NOT enrich Greenlanders nor Denmark even if do enrich America. This action is exactly what makes people like you and Trump so sick as you believe America is the only country in the world that is worthwhile to exist. This kind of foolishness to disrespect everyone else is why so many people hate Americans abroad.

I think you overestimate how many senior leaders have left the military or are willing to leave due to unlawful orders. Admiral Alvin Holsey resigned to avoid following illegal orders, but Kegsbreath easily replaced him with another Admiral who was willing to follow the illegal orders. There are probably a lot of Frank Bradley's in the military.

They are already telling him no.

Greenland is needed for the long-term defense of the USA, the Western Hemisphere, and of the EU.

If NATO is to stay intact, the USA must have Greenland. Failure of Greenlanders & Denmark to make a deal with the USA will result in the USA withdrawing from NATO. The USA doesn't need NATO anywhere near as much as the other NATO countries need the USA.

Trump has already indicated that he is not committed to NATO. Why would Europeans allow the US to annex their territory for a guy who cannot be trusted and may break up NATO regardless? Nobody in Europe (or anywhere else in the world) trusts Trump.

What NATO should do is commit to having a permanent multi-national NATO force on the island at all times, further building out capabilities and infrastructure.

That would likely turn down the temperature and force a shared commitment.
