I know most of us do have that 'its just rec' feeling to a certain extent but the all star teams are usually the more serious rec players who maybe can't afford club.

The whole tournament will probably just be CYA teams playing each other for the coveted sombrero cup. Then some loser coach will act all high and mighty that they finally won a rec tournament and get a glass frame for the mexican hat cup and put it on display in their home office along with their boy scout badges from 1989.

Have all stars teams even been announced yet with player submissions and line-ups? Our group coordinator usually waits until the last minute to put the team together and coaches it with 1-2 practice sessions total for about a week before the tournament. Then everyone is shocked that our team usually loses and he makes up some conspiracy excuses as to why we lost.

Just curious how other all star teams do it. I hear that some leagues and coordinators actually form a team at the beginning to middle of the season and add an extra practice session per week leading up to the tournament.

Yesterday, I went through the Copa and Predator brackets to examine how serious the 8th grader-vs.-12th grader issue really is.

Incidentally, the Valor tournament has U8s, so yes, 7-year-olds will be doing All-Stars. (Yes, mostly from two clubs.)

I'm open to hearing legit criticism of any club, but these arguments are being undercut quite a bit by some alternative facts.

Projection much??? And yes 7 year olds do all stars. For Herndon girls their age groups are U7/U8 and U9/U10. The first all star tournament my daughter participated in was the Herndon fall all star tournament a month after turning 6. Theoretically for the fall tournament if a kid has a late nov/early dec birthday they could be 5.

I know most of us do have that 'its just rec' feeling to a certain extent but the all star teams are usually the more serious rec players who maybe can't afford club.

The whole tournament will probably just be CYA teams playing each other for the coveted sombrero cup. Then some loser coach will act all high and mighty that they finally won a rec tournament and get a glass frame for the mexican hat cup and put it on display in their home office along with their boy scout badges from 1989.

Have all stars teams even been announced yet with player submissions and line-ups? Our group coordinator usually waits until the last minute to put the team together and coaches it with 1-2 practice sessions total for about a week before the tournament. Then everyone is shocked that our team usually loses and he makes up some conspiracy excuses as to why we lost.

Just curious how other all star teams do it. I hear that some leagues and coordinators actually form a team at the beginning to middle of the season and add an extra practice session per week leading up to the tournament.

This is rec, not travel. Yes in travel kids will often play up if they are deemed to be that talented. Putting potential 8th grade rec kids against high school upperclassmen is dangerous especially since it was only done because of lack of teams... not because the 8th graders are that strong and willing to do it.

Projection much??? And yes 7 year olds do all stars. For Herndon girls their age groups are U7/U8 and U9/U10. The first all star tournament my daughter participated in was the Herndon fall all star tournament a month after turning 6. Theoretically for the fall tournament if a kid has a late nov/early dec birthday they could be 5.

Herndon All Stars is a great tournament. No one is complaining about that.
