If we say it's constitutionally legal to hold drug use against someone when they apply for a gun then it's not infringement, amirite?

Because it’s not just about illegal drug use and addiction, it’s about unlawful use. So you could legally be allowed to take Xanax, but if you take too much, that’s unlawful, or if you are addicted to Xanax, that’s disqualifying as well. But you can’t test for everything which is why it’s self declared.

The whole Hunter Biden trial is basically establishing whether self-declared is trustworthy or an adequate measure. If it's not, then clearly there should be a drug screening in addition. Hunter Biden allegedly used cocaine. A standard drug test will test for cocaine, marijuana (still illegal federally), opioids, xanax and other benzos, amphetamines like meth, and barbituates. The legal use of xanax or opioids or ADHD/anxiety meds could be mitigated by a doctor's declaration attached to the form.

Why can’t he just plea? what’s the big deal? even martha stewart can do jail time

I really don’t get why he is dragging this family through all this. It’s an open and shut case and he should own up to his mistakes.

It says a lot about his character or lack thereof.

I think you're forgetting that a plea deal had been agreed to and was reneged upon at the very last minute by the Republican prosecutor after Republican House members complained because they wanted to use it as an election issue.

That’s not what happened. The judge refused to ratify the plea deal because it was ridiculous and in the judges words, both parties had differing interpretations. The judge then asked the parties to go back and negotiate a new deal and Hunter Biden refused because the new deal included jail time. That’s the whole story and accusing the prosecutor of partisan bias makes you the same as Trump.

The plea deal was normal for these charges. The political intervention by Republicans was the ridiculous and outrageous manipulation of the justice system. Stop your gaslighting. All of the political intervention has come from Republicans.

+1 No one else has ever received these charges for this set of facts. Only one gun, never used in a crime, first time offender.

You do have to love the GOP finally embracing gun regulation though.

Now you’re saying that both the prosecution and the judge were partisan? How deep does the conspiracy go?

Look, what happened with the original deal is well documented and reported. In the end it was Biden’s lawyer who announced to the court that the unusually broad and lenient agreement was “null and void“.

Because he’s a loving father? A lot of us can relate to that. It’s very humanizing.

As someone with addiction in my family (like the majority of Americans) I think Republicans are totally overplaying this. It makes me feel closer to Biden to know he has also struggled with addicted family members. He gets it.

You can love your kids without being proud of them. There’s not a lot to be proud of how Hunter Biden has conducted himself.

How are Republicans overplaying this? He’s being prosecuted by Joe Biden’s own DOJ.

He’s in recovery. A lot of people never get to that stage. I’d have totally been proud of my sibling if they had ever gone into recovery. Sadly they died before that ever happened.

You sound callous and it’s quite noticeable to those of us who are human.

Why would I watch Fox News?

The situation here is straight forward. He declared that he wasn’t abusing drugs when he purchased the gun. He later wrote in his book that he was a drug addict at that time. So the facts are not in dispute. Biden’s attorney claims that the declaration isn’t factual but about state of mind and although he was a drug addict, he was in denial at the time and therefore it wasn’t a false declaration according to what Biden believed to be true. It’s a bad legal argument and if he is not convicted following Trump’s conviction it could be very bad and dangerous for our country.

The prosection tried to enter an obvious picture of sawdust and claimed it was cocaine. The form filled out by the gun shop was backdated with three different colors of ink but was submitted as a black and white pdf. The laptop cannot be authenticated because it was laundered through Rudy.

There's a very good reason why this case wasn't going anywhere until the political pressure was applied.

This is deep denial. He made a false declaration on a form in order to purchase a gun. It’s not complicated.

As long as grown children doesn't get to be involved in official matters, leverage their connections for personal gains or get to be the face of American government on foreign trips, we don't care how they live their lives.
