| Thank you all of you who recommended Bettar Appliance in Kensington. I called Bray and Scarff to service the dishwasher that we purchased from them three years ago and stopped working. After first scheduling us on thw wrong day, the serviceman came and "diagnosed" the problem withour ever opening up the dishwasher and pronounced we needed a new motor pump assembly. He said we would get an estimate in 2-3 days. That was two weeks ago. Frustrated that they did not have an estimate each time I called, I searched on DCUM and found Bettar Appliance. I called them and they came 2 hours later. The nicest serviceman ever opened up the motor, found the broken part, had a $38 replacement on his truck and I had a working dishawsher in 45 minutes. It would still be broken with Bray and Scarff. They called this morning to give me my estimate and did not think it was strange that it was two weeks late and anyone can look up the price of a part on the internet. Use Bettar - they could not be nicer!!! |

Your message reminded me that Bray and Scarff repair's service was among the worst I ever received--in my life (including airlines). They didn't show up in the repair window on the first day. I called to confirm towards the end of the 5 hour appointment window when I started getting worried he wouldn't show and the customer service person promised that someone would come within the window. 30 minutes after the 5 hour appt window ended, I called Bray and Scarff and they had already left for the day. I had taken the day off to be there for the repair person.
No apology from the customer service person. I had to call them the next day. They gave me a 3 hr window and promised the guy would be there. I took off of work again and called constantly repeatedly during the window and was promised he would be there. 1 hour after the end of the window he showed up. No apology at all for his no show the day before. Just that "he was busy." He spends 5 minutes looking at my broken W/D and says he needed to order a part that would come in 10 days. 10 days later he comes (late to his window) and says hey, I ordered the wrong part. It will be another 10 days. At that point I tell him I no longer want to do Business with him (or Bray and Scarff) and he tries to make me pay for the incorrect part. And Bray and Scarff "customer service" refused to refund the money I paid him for the first visit he made when he ordered the wrong part. Just had to get that out and vent (catharsis). The happy ending was that I called Skip's Appliance Repair. A man gave me a 2 hour appt window. Called me 30 minutes before his arrival and looked at my washing machine. He had the part in the truck and fixed it on the spot. Never again Bray and Scarff. Would not wish them on anyone. |
| I spent 30k with bray and scarff getting kitchen appliances. My hood broke. I called b and s and same issue as other posters. The repair guy never came. New house now, and nt using b and s. they are horrible. |

Bettar Appliance is wonderful. I have an uncommon range that they easily service. They are very nice and knowledgable.

| Don't use M&M Appliance, they are similar to Bray and Scarff. WIll be trying Bettar! |
Good to know! We bought our appliances from them. |
| I don't know about their repair service, but I was very pleased with their customer service in buying a new dryer and getting it installed in my impossibly small basement. Would not hesitate to buy from them again. Maybe servicing is not really their forte, dunno. |
+1 same here. (Though it was a dishwasher.) |
| I bought an appliance from Bray and Scarff and didn't have problems with the installation. But I also used their repair service, and like the other posters, it was a very very poor quality experience. Different business lines I guess. |
| I bought a dishwasher from B&S to replace an ancient one that was in a house we had recently bought. The guy who came out to do the installation pulled out the old dishwasher saw that it was hardwired in and promptly told me he could not install the new one. Left the new dishwasher in my driveway and the old one pulled out with wiring exposed and not usable. I called a plumber - guy installed the new dishwasher in ten minutes. The part that irritated me was that B&S refused to refund the installation fee because they had come out to the house to "attempt" to install it. |
| They don't take credit cards (checks only) for their repair service for a reason. If they did, I would imagine many people would be contesting the charges. |
OP here. They do take cards, but I wrote a check. Fortunately, they had not cashed it and I was able to stop payment. |
