My DC tells me that the Blair principal made an announcement on Wednesday about a fight that had occured at the school. She had apparently said the schoool was not known for fights. Last year my DC's friends said that two magnet kids were suspended because of alleged drug use. Anyone else heard of these events? |
So in a school of 2,800 there was a fight and a few drug suspensions, that's worthy of note? |
OP, do you come from a land far, far away? |
If folk can have a fight in the OP's own household over the year it's not far fetched that a school of 3000 might have a fight or 2 over the year! |
Is your child or other children in danger? Is it disrupting the classroom or routine activities of other children? If not, I'll just say welcome to high school! |
Here is safety at a glance for Blair.
http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/SafetyGlance/currentyear/schools/04757.pdf There were 36 fights and 11 drug related incidents last year. |
Actually I'm surprised to hear drug use among magnet kids. Is this common?
|
OMG, are you kidding? All types of kids use drugs. |
Did you attend high school? |
by someone who has experimented with drugs |
Yep, not much has changed at Blair in 20 years. My Catholic school had 1 that I remember in 4 years (1000 students in MoCo). |
So what's your point? I went to an all-girls Catholic HS in the 80s. The drug use was rampant. And we're talking high quality drugs - not just pot. There are problems everywhere, hon. You can't see that? |
When I was in college, I knew a guy from St. Albans who did coke, and had done so since school. High school is high school, all over the place. |
+1 million. Even at the W schools. |
I get the impression that Blair supporters have a chip on their shoulder. OP simply asked if anyone had heard of those events. Why go off at a tangent?
The safety and security at a glance means nothing. If the administration doesn'ty report an even it doesn't get listed. |
