Does anyone have the specifics of "a good portion of The Post newsroom has kids at Blair? " What is "a good portion in quantitative terms?" Aren't Post reporters sending their kids to "W" schools?
How do you know what Mathews knows? It would have been far more helpful if you had said that the fighting and drug use at Blair is no worse than at any other MCPS school. |
That just proves that even the science magnet program at Blair is not as good as Whitman. (I'm being snarky.) |
Because I Googled "Jay Mathews Blair". Here: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=jay+mathews+blair |
lol |
So, you kinda admit that you exagerated the claim about "a good portion of The Post newsroom has kids at Blair? " Your link may prove that Mathews knows more than you but little else. As a Blair parent I want my child to receive the same education as the kids in the wealthier regions of our county. |
Several people are responding to your posts. I have no idea where the Post newsroom has their kids. That was a different poster. |
Heh. Your post telling him to google for Blair is the 3rd hit.... |
I guess several posters were exaggerating. The point I would make is that those trying to defend Blair are doing more harm than good. Is the education at Blair as good as that at any "W" school? If it is, let us acknowledge that MCPS education is uniformly good in schools, be they high FARMS or low FARMS. Those gaps we see in performance between the schools? Just minor irritants, I guess. |
I think that you're inappropriately conflating "good education" and "high test scores". Jay Mathews wrote about that. |
Oh no, is must be the Poolesville poster again....
downplay problems at Blair. I get that mindset. To attract better students to Blair you have to make it look attractive. My question is very simple--would Blair supporters be willing to identify themselves and unambiguously state that the stereotypical image of schools with high FARMS rate having less qualified teachers and lower standards of education does not hold for Blair?? Would you write to all the talking heads on education, i.e., Washington Post's stable of "education writers" and tell them that Blair has excellent teachers and delivers an excellent education? |
Oh no, Blair troll, I'm not a Poolesville booster. Can you give me reasons why anyone needs to mention Blair to be called a Poolesville booster? ARe you too dumb to realize that if you are zoned for Blair you can't attend Poolesville anyway? |
I get it that you think Jay Mathews is a god. The dude equates a good school with one that has the most kids being pushed to take AP or IB. So, the dude conflates pusing kids to take AP with being a good school. Just a simple question--------------is a Blair education good as that at any "W" school by any measure? |
No, I don't think that Jay Mathews is a god. You're the one (if it was you; maybe it wasn't) who asked IN CAPITAL LETTERS if we were willing to write to the Washington Post education writers. And why do you keep asking about a comparison between Blair and the W schools? (Whitman, Walter Johnson, Wheaton, Wootton, Watkins Mill.) What's it to you? |
Well, it's an extremely stupid question, demonstrating extreme ignorance, but, yes, for the Blair kids who fit the same demographic profile as their W counterparts, and come to the table with the same external advantages, the outcome is the same. Surely you get that, right? |
Well, it's an extremely stupid question, demonstrating extreme ignorance, but, yes, for the Blair kids who fit the same demographic profile as their W counterparts, and come to the table with the same external advantages, the outcome is the same. Surely you get that, right? Definitely. A bad teacher (my older daughter had 2 at Blair, both in math) is less disastrous to a kid from a middle or high SES family. We paid for tutors and emailed the teacher, department head, and administrators weekly until instruction improved (case #1) or a transfer to another teacher came through (case #2). |
