If Blair supporters have a chip on their shoulder, it's because of the people who are constantly implying that sending your kid to Blair is like sending your kid to Escape From New York. |
Er, I'm one of the PPs and I have absolutely no connection to Blair. I live in Germantown. But you don't have to be a "Blair supporter" to point out how laughable the original post is. |
When I went to BCC drug use was rampant there. |
Is it possible that you were reading in an implication THAT DID NOT EXIST. |
The OP asked a question. Oh, I live in the Andes and have no connection to your area. Hey now, realize how laughable your claim of being in Germantown and having no connection to Blair is?!!! |
The OP may or may not have implied it. But plenty of other people have implied it (or, indeed, said it outright). If people were constantly saying that your kid's school was Criminal Central, when it wasn't, and then along came somebody asking about criminal behavior at your kid's school, how would you respond? a. I am really tired of ignorant people telling me that my kid's school is Criminal Central. b. Why do you ask? |
Yeah, the OP asked about a fight and a couple of drug suspensions in a public high school in the year 2014. Perhaps you are similarly disconnected from reality in the Andes. |
It seems that there is a group trying to downplay problems at Blair. I get that mindset. To attract better students to Blair you have to make it look attractive.
My question is very simple--would Blair supporters be willing to identify themselves and unambiguously state that the stereotypical image of schools with high FARMS rate having less qualified teachers and lower standards of education does not hold for Blair?? Would you write to all the talking heads on education, i.e., Washington Post's stable of "education writers" and tell them that Blair has excellent teachers and delivers an excellent education? |
It's interesting that you should say that, since it seems to me that there is a group trying to upplay problems at Blair. And I don't get that mindset. If your kid doesn't go to Blair, why would you care? |
^^^And I'm certain that Jay Mathews, the Washington Post's lead education writer, is already quite familiar with Montgomery Blair.
|
The Blair paranoia strikes again. Again, the question was very simple--would Blair supporters be willing to identify themselves and unambiguously state that the stereotypical image of schools with high FARMS rate having less qualified teachers and lower standards of education does not hold for Blair?? Would you write to all the talking heads on education, i.e., Washington Post's stable of "education writers" and tell them that Blair has excellent teachers and delivers an excellent education? WILL YOU DO THAT? |
Whose "stereotypical image"? Yours? Not mine. And why should I e-mail Jay Mathews about Blair? He knows more about the school than I do. I'm sure he knows more about the school than you do, too. Plus, why are you fixated on Blair? Nine of Montgomery County's 25 high schools have a higher FARMS rate than Blair. Why aren't you demanding, in capital letters, that I e-mail Jay Mathews about the teachers and education at Paint Branch, Seneca Valley, Gaithersburg, Einstein, Springbrook, Northwood, Watkins Mill, Kennedy, and Wheaton? WILL YOU ANSWER THAT? |
This is funny because a good portion of The Post newsroom has kids at Blair. |
+1 |
Let's not forget the kid that was just arrested for making toxic poison in his Georgetown dorm was a Whittman grad. |
