I would say Nixon was charismatic. It certainly wasn't his handsome face that got him elected. He was also a talented politician. Just fatally flawed. Similar in my mind to Clinton. Great POTUS, just an achillies heel for the ladies.

Cannon is running a pure careerist move. For her, if TFG or another MAGA is elected again, she will be rewarded for her loyalty with a promotion. If not, then she loses nothing and keeps her lifetime appointment. That incentive is much lower for a circuit judge and basically non-existent for a justice. Those folks are looking at the longer term interests of the conservative movement, and undermining the national security state by taking a wrecking ball to decades-long precedent about classified information and executive privilege is not good for that.

And let's all remember, whatever is good for the goose, is good for the gander. Her ruling can work both ways. Is that what the GOP are going to back? Are we Hungary?

There have already been a bunch. I saw a response from DHS the other day to one of them (can't find now) that said they were unable to find any responsive documents.

What does this do to any on going investigation of people who are stealing classified documents? Seems like anyone convicted of having classified documents needs to appeal.

If they get the same treatment as Trump, it makes it essentially impossible to even conduct an investigation, much less prosecute them. They can bottle up all the evidence with a special master while they argue whether it is really classified, whether maybe it's privileged (can't just take DOJ's word for it that classified documents aren't subject to spousal privilege!), etc. If you take it seriously, the Espionage Act is a dead letter.

Do you think SCOTUS will overturn established precedent with regard to treating everyone the same or say this only applies to this case? They seem to like do that.
