Do you buy different milks?

My son is about to turn one so he'll start drinking whole milk. My daughter is 4 (and big, no need to gain weight) and drinks 2%. Am I going to have to start buying two different milks each time I go to the store? I know the baby needs the fat for brain development, so maybe I should just get whole milk for everyone, but my daughter has no need for the extra calories (nor do I!). What does everyone else do?

Yes, I did for a long time till we transitioned to 2%.

Buy two milks. I actually buy four total since my DH is lactose-intolerant: whole, 1%, almond milk and Lactose-free nonfat milk.

Everyone uses full-fat milk in our house if they're not getting breastmilk.

We bought two milks - whole and 1%. It's only for a year.

Why can't everybody drink whole milk?

yeah, I really hate the taste of whole milk (and I think the kind with DHA added smells funny); so we keep whole and skim at all times.

DH and I don't drink milk so we just stick with whole. If it isn't a big deal for you, just buy the two. But really it is an additional 30 calories and 4.5 grams of fat so depending on how much your daughter drinks, I don't think you necessarily have to buy 2.

Yes. I can't stand anything but skim milk, so I buy that for me and H (he's free to use whatever he wants, but he doesn't grocery shop and hasn't complained about it).

I also buy organic milk for our kid and I don't buy it for us as really, any damage is already done in that regard.

Four. We buy four types of milk. Lactose free and skim for parents. 2% and chocolate for the kids. It takes up quite a bit of room in the refrigerator but it is what works for us best.

I thought every parent does this at some point so I am surprised there is a post, but yea, we have two different gallons of milk in the refrig. and some breast milk too while we are transitioning so I guess 3 kinds.

OP here: We could of course, it just seems like unnecessary extra fat/calories for the rest of the family.

Yuck. So thick.

We buy 3- whole, 2% and skim.

I buy organic whole milk for everyone. There's only 3 g difference in fat for whole milk and 2%. unless you and your 4 y.o. are drinking 4 cups a day, I don't think it will add up.

fwiw, I only add milk to coffee, so I drink about 1/2 cup of milk a day.

You can get 2% with half whole and half skim.
