| After several years of illness, I'm ready to start getting my life back. I've been very sedentary (of necessity) but there are now no health reasons to hold me back. The distance between where I am and fitness is probably pretty big though. Can anyone recommend any Couch to 5k programs for someone like me? |

I like the "Get Running" app. She has a lovely British accent.
I'm as lazy and out of shape as they come and have used it to train for 2 5ks successfully. |

Couch to 5k programs
Mayo Clinic plan http://www.mayoclinic.org/5k-run/art-20050962?pg=2 NHS plan http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/get-running-with-couch-to-5k.aspx Cool Running plan http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml After that, I like Jeff Galloway's program(s). He is the training consultant for the Run Disney events. 5k training http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/5k10kschedules/ After you've been running for some time, here are some beginner training programs for longer distances: http://www.rundisney.com/training/ |

You could start with the Hal Higdon walking program.

| Thanks, pps. Will check these out. |
I did that Cool Running plan and it worked for me. |
| Good luck OP. Running can change your life. Just take it easy! Start slowly, build out slowly... no need to rush. |
