FC Dulles is way worse. You get what you pay for.

Could you be more specific? I did a search on here and didn't find any complaints. Valor has multiple hundred page long blogs.

DP

I wouldn’t consider Dulles worse or better because I don’t know what your goals are for your dc.
But “half the price” seems a bit unfair comparison. It is a non-MLSN/ECNL/GA club. Also, like so many other clubs that have a lower listed fee, they have additional fees such as “out-of-county” fees and tournament fees that parents have to pay.

We are in Fairfax so the out of county fee doesn't apply.

Both Valor and Dulles teams play in NCSL. Valor charges the same price for all their teams, right?

Valor is a ECNL-RL club

Almost all of their teams play in NCSL though. But everyone pays ECNL-RL prices.

GFR and Arlington also ONLY posted their first team coaches? Wow.

Looking at the coaching staff, MB does not have a girl on the 2011 team. She is a great coach and has a good reputation coaching Chantilly's varsity team. We need to stop spitting out rumors.

DV is her co-coach and has a daughter on the team.

+1. That team is parent-coached. You need to check your facts before claiming other people are "spitting out rumors".

As a parent on that team, he is the assistant. He is also her assistant at Chantilly. I like having two coaches and he is great with the girls.

And he has a kid on the team, right?

Why are you so worked up?

Nobody is "worked up" but you seem awfully defensive about a plain fact.

No I am sure they are just wondering who hurt you? Parents coach their own kids all the time. Deion just had both of his sons on a college football team. You squak about it more than the talking heads on espn.

LOL at comparing a pro player in the Hall of Fame to some random dad who played high school soccer. I'm sure parents would be fine if a former pro of that stature was coaching their kid alongside one of the coach's own. The problem is that parents hired very late in the game tend not to be as qualified in terms of experience or licensure. Combine that with potential favoritism/bias issues and you've got a problem.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I personally would at least give it a season if a seemingly qualified and experienced coach were hired through a normal process and then happened to have a child on the same team. What I would not stick around for is a TBD coach. Too much of a risk that it will end up being a parent *because* their kid is on that team and they couldn't hire anyone else.

Yeah. Because shame on valor for not hiring pro hall of fame coach for your kid. Your kid deserves more than random dad

No. This is not a correct comparison.

GFR posted almost all their coaches down through third and fourth and fifth teams. They have a handful of tbd coaches on their lowest levels. GFR introduced all three coaches for all three teams at the tryouts we attended. They were present, paid attention to all the players, and available for parents to talk to.

That's not true. GFR was late with all their turmoil and one can judge the quality but they did release a full slate.

2014's. 3 teams 3 coaches named.

Okay, who were the coaches?

1st Team - Israel aka Stevie, aka “trust the process” of passing drills, scrimmaging, and playing in fear of making mistakes to the point of preferring to sit the bench or simply skipping games and events.

2nd Team - Cory Fick aka Girls Director responsible for hiring both Israel and Chris The division is such a mess he had to assign himself the 2nd team unless he’s simply a placeholder til he finds another coach. Only time will tell since he certainly wouldn’t tell a parent the truth. If the philosophy is, blow up the 14G division by driving the best players to Loudoun, VDA, or Revolution and then start over by promoting the 2nd team to the 1st, than Bravo Zulu. Selling the clout of the 1st team to parents on the current 2nd team should work. Hopefully there are enough new naive families coming in willing to accept playing on the second team since you know there’s no way in hell they’ll accept an offer from the 3rd team.

3rd Chris Rivera (same parent coach as now) If your a current player on the 3rd team and your fortunate enough that your dd still wants to play soccer another year, don’t worry, there should be plenty opportunities to move to the second team If not, then make sure your dd’s appt with her psychiatrist is right after training otherwise, simply go somewhere else. For the grace of the players and families, hopefully there isn’t a 3rd team next year.

Again, Bravo Zulu Valor. VDA here we come.

Thanks for the summary. Good luck at VSA. Have they sent out offers yet? Do they have any idea they are losing players. For the sake of discussion would the 2nd team be a terrible place for a middle of the pack player? If there is no 3rd team wouldn't CR move up to 2 if Cory is placeholder?

Just be cautious to committing w/no coach and the possibility of a default promotion. There's plenty of info on this thread on the 14G division from the Fall and early Spring. The result of Cory's efforts to hire a coach have not yet succeeded but as parents we have to assume he doesn't believe CR is the best fit for 2nd team or he would have already made the decision. For those who stay to play on 2nd it is not likely to be for the coaching. How can it be when you don't know who it will be? If they move him by default they likely didn't have enough to field a 3rd team therefore the default promotion.

For the cost of travel fees, yes they deserve someone with some experience and a license. Are you really trying to tell people they should just accept whoever can be scrounged up in August? That sounds like a winning strategy! If I wanted a random dad I would keep my kid in rec.

I do have one in rec, BTW, because that's the more appropriate place for them right now. I am grateful to whoever volunteers to coach their team. But for my other child who is pretty good (based on others' feedback, not my own assessment) and wants to get better, I want the coach who will help them develop.

Idk how he has the time with football at the St. James, but I personally am excited to see that he is the new U13 coach.

If past success is any indication, it won't be long until ECNL picks him up...
